Sophomore Year As Told By "Grey's Anatomy"

Sophomore year is full of ups and downs like any other year, but there are a few times when you realize that sophomore year is unique. What better way to explain it than through "Grey's Anatomy"?

1. People try to tell you that you're not quite a young freshman anymore, but you're not a serious upperclassman, yet.

I get that I'm not fresh meat, but you can't just put me in this limbo stage. You either look at me like a kid or an adult. Why is there a pre-teen stage in college?

2. You show up to a fraternity party in Nike shorts and a T-shirt, instead of a dress and wedges, and people think you're nuts.

Some people need to understand that I don't want to dress up all the time. I just don't have that many nice outfits. I've made my friend groups, and I'm comfortable enough to go out in my pajamas. Either acknowledge that I'm a genius or just let me be.

3. You're much wilder than your freshman days, and you don't have your dorm right on campus to wander back to anymore.

Going into sophomore year and moving into our own houses and apartments proved to be much more of an ordeal than we expected. We aren't all going home to the same dorms anymore, and you have to split up your friend group at the end of the night to head home to different places. You just better hope that all of your belongings make it home with you.

4. You've stopped caring about the freshman 15, and you've wandered into the sophomore slump.

Honestly, at this point I'm content with eating whatever I want, even if it's going to make me gain 50 pounds. That's fine. Give me the food.

5. You've come to realize that it's okay to be gross, sad, and curled in a ball on your couch -- sometimes.

I spent so much of my freshman year trying to go out all the time and be a fun-loving, happy girl. I've realized that there are nights when I still love doing that, but if I want to curl up on my couch and look like the monster that crawled out from under the bed, by all means, I'm going to.

6. You start taking classes specific to your major, and you start to question if this is the right path for you.

I know I'm not alone on this one. We've all considered changing our majors at least 12 times. School is hard, and I don't know how to pick what I want to do for the rest of my life within this four-year time period.

7. You realize that intramurals are more about hanging out with your friends than winning the league.

My team is just as competitive as any other, but we're really there to just have fun and act like we're tougher than we actually are.

8. You start creeping on freshmen girls because you need a little, and she must be perfect.

You've stalked their social media, you've declared them your rush crush, and you know the basic details. Now you must know how she acts when you aren't around. Who is she, really?

9. You question why you ever attended functions that didn't provide food.

I'm hungry all the time. It's unreal. My first question when people ask me to hang out or invite me to an event is always, "Will there be food there?" If the answer is no, I move on to, "Can we get food before we go?" If the answer is still no, I'm not likely to attend.

10. Your professor thinks it's cute to have a quiz or exam on the same day as, or the morning after, a tailgate.

No. Just no. Don't do it.

11. Your parents call to see how you did on your test and how your second year is going, and they expect you to have it together.

"Well, Mom, I'd like to say it's going well, but you once taught me not to lie. I'm considering dropping out. It'll save you a lot of money and save me a lot of pain. It's settled."

12. You've stopped trying to impress people because you're awesome, and if someone can't see that, it's their loss.

I'm a catch. All my fellow sophomores are catches. Dude, we are hot. Own it. You shave your legs when you want to, not when you think you should. Boys, don't worry about whether or not that girl will like your scruff or not. Do what you want.

13. You're feeling good because you realize you're only getting better with age.

This is your year. Make it amazing because each year must be better than the last.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
