In a remarkable turn of events, potential medical school applicant Sarah Toehnin added a Bboyfriend to her already full schedule. The sophomore reportedly did not find her current 19-credit-hour-per-week schedule challenging enough and decided that adding this three-credit-hour commitment would increase her empathy and make her a better, more well-rounded applicant. “Organic Chemistry, Quantum Mechanics, and Introduction to Advanced Scientific Method weren’t really doing it for me.
I found that after my 12 extracurriculars, class, eating, and sleeping, I had one hour free every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 a.m. to 1 a.m., so why not go for it? I just really want to show Ivy League medical schools that I can handle academic rigor while also growing as a person.” With the MCAT and medical profession adopting an increasingly psycho-social approach, many academic advisers have expressed support for her decision.
However, the road for Sarah hasn’t been easy. “By taking this course, I’m at 22 credit hours, exceeding the recommended 20 credit hours”. According to inside sources, the dean himself had to first consult with a variety of physicians in order to deem Sarah’s new schedule safe to undertake. Other pre-med majors who caught wind of Sarah’s recent endeavors were disapproving. “It’s never been done before! A boyfriend?! I’d consider it if I could put a pass-fail on it.” The chemistry, psychology, and biochemistry triple-major, however, seems to have it all figured out. “The way I look at it, it’s pretty low-stress. It’s early enough in the semester for me to still drop him this semester, and take him up again next semester. And besides, getting a good grade in a three-credit class can only improve my GPA. Hopefully, it can fulfill distribution credit for graduation, too.”
The boyfriend himself could not be reached for comment.
