I interviewed Sophomore Class Secretary candidate, Kristen Walker, over the phone this past weekend. I wanted my interview with Kristen to be a continuation of my highlighting the class council elections at Spelman College. Even though Kristen Walker is running unopposed, it is important for members of the current first year class at Spelman College to know who will not only be their voice to faculty and administration at Spelman College, but to other students within the AUC (Atlanta University Center) as well next academic school year.
Thank you for this interview Kristen! Let's start with your "Spelman introduction" of course.
No problem! My name is Kristen Walker, first-year Political Science and Spanish double major from Richmond, VA.
Why are you running for Sophomore Class Secretary and what makes you qualified to serve our class in this way?
I want to serve as a leading voice in exhibiting the class of 2019 to the AUC as an innovative class that includes young women with diversifying talents and aspirations. I am also an individual who thoroughly executes a well derived plan and always accomplishes the task at hand. That is why if placed in this position, I know that I will aid in the execution of sophomore class events to my full potential and promote a positive and respectful atmosphere between all members of our class.
You mentioned aiding in the execution of sophomore class events, but do you have any events that you plan to execute on your own as a member of the Sophomore Class Council?
Of course! My planned events go hand in hand with my platform which is "The promotion of self love, harmony, and gratitude!" The first event that I plan on executing is the "Love Yourself First" series because I believe it is important for us to establish self respect and self esteem for ourselves before going out into the workforce! Furthermore, I would like to promote harmony within the three sophomore classes within the AUC, which includes Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morehouse College, through the execution of a talent show that showcases all of the various talents throughout the sophomore class of the AUC. Finally, I will promote service by creating a charity sports tournament at Spelman which would be open to all as a way to raise money for a charity and I would also like to plan a day of service for the sophomore class exclusively.
One final question Kristen. How do you feel running officially unopposed?
I would have enjoyed more of a challenge, but not having an opponent makes it very clear to the sophomore class that I am the best person for the job. The sophomore class at Spelman will not regret having me in the position of Sophomore Class Secretary because I am vision and goal oriented, meaning that I will get the job done. I love Spelman College and as Sophomore Class Secretary, I will be able to serve my class while also promoting values which are already important to me: self love, harmony, and gratitude. Vote Kristen Walker for Sophomore Class Secretary and you will see the difference that I would make on this campus and within the AUC.
