Songs That Will Make You Feel

"Music is the strongest form of magic."

Songs That Will Make You Feel

Music is so important. I looked up the definition of the word "music" in the dictionary: "vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion." To me, music is much more than that. It is the thing that picks you up when you are down, the artist you connect with because your hearts are aching the same, the thrill of seeing your favorite band perform right in front of your face, the melody you put on repeat because you're falling helplessly in love. Music should make you feel something; it should inspire and create you.

Although I love all the pop songs on the radio (I agree they do make you feel something), I want to expose some songs that are very underrated and probably were never even heard on the radio before. These songs make me feel something, they have inspired me, helped me, and given me that feeling that music should give.

1. "The Girl" by City and Colour

A feel-good song. I seriously hope my future husband has the voice of Dallas Green and knows how to play the guitar because this better be serenaded to me on my wedding day.

"If you were to leave, fulfill someone else's dreams, I think I might totally be loss."

2. "When I Get My Hands On You" by The New Basement Tapes

Another feel-good song, with lyrics by Bob Dylan. If you like this song then I highly suggest you check out The New Basement Tapes. They are a group of amazing singer-songwriters chosen to put Bob Dylan's lyrics that were never released into breathtaking songs.

"Now you know, everywhere on earth you go; you're gonna have me as your man."

3. "Between the Bars" by Elliott Smith

A song that makes me feel the most, to a person who can't let go of their demons and can't see what they can be.

"Separate from the rest, where I like you the best."

4. "12 Feet Deep" by The Front Bottoms

A quirky song, Not accepting the fact that your high school lover has moved on.

"Maybe college won't work out, and I can come sleep on your couch."

5. "Bobby Tanqueray" by Lake Street Dive

Rachael Price's voice is so good the song will drag you in once you hear the first line. A song to listen to when you're in agony over the person you just can't seem to ever have.

"I would tell him, but he won't care."

6. "The Quiet Things No One Ever Knows" by Brand New

If you never listened to Brand New, then please listen. Doesn't the title of the song just give you the chills?

"Keep the blood in your head, Keep your feet on the ground."

7. "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service

A must-listen-to love song.

"They will see us waving from such great heights."

8. "Love Your Friends, Die Laughing" by Man Overboard

The perfect song to listen to when you're hanging out with your favorite people in the world.

"When you put your arms around me, the whole world's alright."

9. "Crazy For You" by Adele

A hopeless love song. They aren't kidding when they say Adele's voice will make you think about the person you made eye contact with on the bus three months ago.

"You said I'm crazy; if I am, I'm crazy for you."

10. "Moshi Moshi (ACOUSTIC)" by Brand New

Oh, my future husband better sing this to me on our wedding day too.

"Are you thinking of me when you're putting on your makeup darling, dying your hair like you do. You're wasting your time if you're trying to impress me, I waste all of my time just thinking of you."

I could go on and on, but I'll keep this list short and sweet. I hope you cherish these songs and they make you feel something like they do for me.

Happy listening.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
