Songs Have Special Meanings

Music is something extra special because more than one person is going to know a song. But the cool thing about music is that everyone is going to have a different memory to associate with that song. Some good and some bad. What's even cooler is everyone is not only going to experience a different memory but also a different feeling. Here are some of my favorite songs. Some include good memories and others include bad.

1. "Glad You Came" by The Wanted

I will always remember this song I feel. For a long time it held so much importance to me. And looking back the reason this song was so important to me makes little sense. This was the last song I danced to at my senior prom. I don’t know why it was so special to me at one point in my life. Maybe it was just because of how memorable my senior prom was. But whatever it is the memories I hold onto with this song are at least decent ones.

2. "What Does the Fox Say?" by Ylvis

This song is definitely quite special to me. It is my ringtone for when my family calls or texts. It is something that has definitely held importance to me since the moment it became so popular. I remember being two-and-a-half hours away from home during community college and texting my mom. We would text the lyrics back and forth to each other for what seems like hours. It will always hold some type of importance to me because it reminds me no matter how far away I might be away from my parents sometimes, in the end we still have this song.

3. "Fix You" by Coldplay

I have always loved this song. It’s super special. “When you try your best, but you don't succeed. When you get what you want, but not what you need. When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep” (Coldplay). This song is a necessary reminder for me. It’s a reminder to me that I won’t always succeed. What I want is not always what I really need. There are going to be moments where I’m so tired but I toss and turn all night. I’m not alone. And someday someone will be there to try and fix me.

4. "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift

I remember singing this song over and over during community college with my friends. And at that moment it meant nothing. It was just a song. But now it means more than it ever did before. It’s a reminder that my ex and I are never ever getting back together. No matter what. We aren’t. And you know what that is okay. But whenever I hear this song I definitely will be reminded.

5. "Over the Rainbow" by Judy Garland

When I hear this song, often I will shed a tear or two. And it has not always been this way. I haven’t always cried over this song. I learnt how to play it in Orchestra in 8th grade. I loved playing this song. It was my favorite of all time. But in 8th grade I also lost a friend of mine to cancer. And he was in orchestra with me. This song was played at his school memorial service. And now every time I ever hear this song I am reminded of him.

6. "F**Kin’ Perfect" by P!nk

This song is a definite reminder. It’s important and necessary. “Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel, Like you're less than f***ing perfect. Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel, Like you're nothing, you're f***ing perfect to me” (Pink). I remember writing it down on a note to my best friend so she’d always remember. Because sometimes it is so easy to forget. We used to sing this song to each other over and over and over.

7. "Mama’s Broken Heart" by Miranda Lambert

Me and my best friend would cruise around town for no reason. Or we’d drive to some location to shop, but no matter where we were going or what we were doing this song was usually played at some point. And no matter what it would always be blasted and we would be singing it at the top of our lungs. This definitely will always be a memory I cherish when I think of this song, just cruising with my best friend with no care in the world.

8. "Jesus, Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood

This song holds extra special importance to my life. In 2012 I was involved in a rollover car wreck. My car rolled a total of four times landing on all four wheels. I walked away only bruised and cut. I definitely will always be reminded of this when I hear this song. I feel Jesus definitely had the wheel that day.

9. Bear Necessities" by The Jungle Book

This song definitely holds importance to my childhood and it always will. But this song also holds much importance to me at 22. One of my best friends wanted to do something special for my 22nd birthday. She took me to see Jungle Book and this song was what I looked forward to the whole movie. But to have a friend that wanted to make sure my birthday was extra special and just spend time together will always be the reminder when I hear this song. How much she cared to make my 22nd so special.

10. "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" by Beyonce

This is one of those songs you can’t forget the lyrics to. No matter what you are doing, once you hear it you are singing along to it. And no matter what, at least one person will know the dance to it. This song holds memories of singing it and dancing to it with my girls. And all though not all of them are still single, I will definitely be reminded of the memories.

11. "I'll Be There For You" by "Friends" Theme Song

This song definitely holds some more negative memories. And sometimes when I hear it played, it takes me a second to sallow. This song was another one associated with my good friend who passed away of cancer. We sent him a card the week before he passed away that played this song. And I used to have to cover my ears anytime this song played (which is hard because I love the show "Friends"). But now it is definitely a little easier for me to hear.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
