5 Songs You Rocked Out To During Your Inevitable Emo Phase

I still want to walk down the aisle to, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies."

Many of us don't like to admit it, but we must come to the harsh reality. I know, I know! It's hard. I mean God. Do you remember what we used to wear? Oh dear, how about how much eyeliner we used? And jeez do you remember our obsession with Edward Cullen from "Twilight"? Yes, my friends. I'm talking about our emo phase. Possibly one of the darkest times of our lives. I mean, we really thought we were cool and misunderstood souls who loved to wear fingerless gloves and extensions from Hot Topic. Oh, the cringe. But, if there's one thing I don't regret from my emo phase, it's the music. Emo music from the early to mid-2000s will always have a special place in my heart. There are 5 emo songs that will bring out any and everybody's inner rawr XD.

1. "Misery Business" by Paramore

I'm pretty sure Paramore's, "Misery Business," made every girl want to be Haley Williams. She was this badass female talking about taking somebody's man, and not really caring about it. Though the message is kinda problematic, the song is a musical masterpiece, and best believe when this comes on Spotify, I am going to perform the most beautiful power ballad you've ever heard.

2. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" by Panic! At the Disco

I think I speak for everybody when I saw that Brendan Urie was my unofficial first boyfriend. That Abe Lincoln hat and red blazer really did it for me. Everybody knows, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," in some form or another. It's that song that everybody at the party knows. I have made actual friendships from singing the lyrics, "With a sense of poise and rationality...AGAIINNNNNNNNN," like there was no tomorrow.

3. "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers

When, "Mr. Brightside," by The Killers comes on, everybody gets in their feels. I mean someone is pouring their heart out about getting cheated on. Too real. Brandon Flowers completely killed this emo kid classic. "Mr. Brightside," is the song you will never ever forget the lyrics to. Ever.

4. "Chop Suey" by Systems of a Down

"Chop Suey," is the epidemy of pink hairspray and faux nose piercings. When this song comes on, you know its about to get real serious. The song is so hype, but then it calms down and kind of makes you sad, and then picks right back up to the hype again. Serj Tankian's vocals are killer in this song, even though I don't really know what it's about. Oops.

5. "Helena" by My Chemical Romance

The song that made every emo kid feel immortal. My Chemical Romance was pivotal in every emo kids life in general, but, "Helena" had a true power over our lives. In the music video, Gerard Way is belting his little heart out at a funeral for some dead girl. And then all the people at the funeral start dancing, and Gerard drops to his knees, and the dead girl wakes up and starts dancing too. It's a lot, but in the best way. My nine year old emo self pops out as soon as the beat drops.

Our emo phase is kinda hard to talk about, and rightfully so. We wore neon pink checkered socks and dangling lighting bolt earrings. What kind of a monster does that?! But, it's all good, because we got some pretty sweet music out of the deal. Just remember to go through your FaceBook and delete all your emo pics. No one deserves to experience that. Rawr XD forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
