10 Songs for the Best Summer Playlist

Every season brings new music, and this summer I have been extremely pleased with what has been released thus far. Between Halsey’s hopeless fountain kingdom and All Time Low’s Last Young Renegade, and Imagine Dragons releasing Evolve on June 23, this will be the summer of great music in general.

I wanted to compile some of the summer songs that I have been loving lately, and it just so happens that almost all of the music has been released in the past year. One thing I noticed about this current playlist is that there is no actual theme. Some songs are motivational, some are sad; some are rock, some are pop, it’s one big mix of genres and emotions to help with every moment of the summer.

1. Ashes, Ashes – Deaf Havana

This song is all about getting away. It talks about driving to the coast and going somewhere they love, with someone they love. It's a song I can imagine driving to, with the sunset slowly dipping into darkness on a warm summer night.

2. Believer – Imagine Dragons

This song has been around for the last few months, and besides the fast that most radios either don't play it or play it too often, it's classic Imagine Dragons and it is easily one of the best tunes to workout to or to get pumped to.

3. O.D.D. – Hey Violet

O.D.D. is one of the latest singles off of the new album by Hey Violet, From the Outside. This is by far one of the best songs for anyone who feels like an outsider. The song is dressed with a contagious chorus and unique instrumentals, which makes for an amazing tune for the summer.

4. Ghost – Normandie

I recently discovered this band on Spotify and I feel like I've been missing out. Normandie is a post-hardcore band and this is their most recent work. It's motivational, rebellious, and everything you could ever want from a rock song.

5. Find Yourself – Great Good Fine Ok, Before You Exit

With a smooth electronic beat, calm vocals, and subtle dropped beat, "Find Yourself" is the best song to blast when you're lying next to the pool with your sunglasses on, or even when you're staying inside for a needed break from the heat.

6. Afterglow – All Time Low

Like I said before, All Time Low came out with an album this summer, and even though the entire album just screams summer to me, this is one of my favorites. I feel like it describes the long summer nights with your best friends, the moments you'll always remember.

7. Homesick – Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa released a new album recently and collaborated with Coldplay's Chris Martin on the track "Homesick". This is definitely a change of pace on the playlist, but I think it's sad, and beautiful in the best way - possibly, a great way to end a long summer day.

8. Cloud 9 – Emarosa

Emarosa has been one of my favorite bands this past year - and has earned its place as one of my all time favorites, so I felt like I needed to be honest and say that this song has been on every playlist of mine since the album 131 was released. It has a fast beat, with a lot of emotions and wicked lead vocals.

9. Washed Up Together – Knox Hamilton

I associate this song with the beach. Probably because the cover art was a pink and blue beach, but this song is so catchy and makes you want to dance, no matter what mood you're in.

10. Angel on Fire - Halsey

Halsey's album has been on repeat non-stop ever since it's release a few weeks ago, but this is probably one of my favorite songs by her in general. It is darker, but still very deserving of being on every summer playlist.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
