I love listening to covers. It’s always interesting hearing another musician’s take on a classic or a popular song. Often times, covers offer a twist on the original meaning of a song or allow you to interpret lyrics in a totally different light. Here are eight of my all-time favorite song covers that are sure to leave you with goose bumps:
1. I’m Gonna Be 500 Miles (The Proclaimers cover) by Sleeping At Last
This cover completely turns a quirky, upbeat tune into a haunting love song. It’s a totally different vibe from the original.
2. I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing (Aerosmith cover) by Jake Coco and Savannah Outen
This duet shifts a rock classic to a soft, beautiful ballad with piano.
3. Like I’m Gonna Lose You (Meghan Trainer & John Legend cover) by Jasmine Thompson
Goose. Bumps. Jasmine Thompson’s voice never ceases to give me chills.
4. Somewhere Only We Know (Keane cover) by Lily Allen
Lily Allen turns this song into a sweet, cheerful take on Keane’s hit.
5. The Scientist (Coldplay cover) by Corinne Bailey Rae
Even though the original version is already full of angst, Corinne Bailey Rae’s rendition of it adds a whole different layer of sadness to this classic Coldplay song.
6. Man in the Mirror (Michael Jackson cover) by James Morrison
A beautiful acoustic tribute to the King of Pop.
7. Across the Universe (Beatles cover) by Fiona Apple
Fiona Apple gives this Beatles classic an indie, coffee-shop-esque twist.
8. Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding cover) by Sara Bareilles
This cover of a 60s R&B hit never gets old—the soul in Bareilles’ voice is incredible.
