As The Daughter Of A Police Officer, These Are My Thoughts On The Negativity Towards Police
Cleveland Media

This whole hatred felt towards police officers makes me angry beyond belief. So to all those that have something to say about those that wake up every morning to protect every race, ethnicity, color, sex, etc., this article is for you.

When my mom first became a cop, I was in elementary school. Back then everyone in my class would talk about what their parents did for living, every time I had the chance to speak, I always found myself smiling ear to ear and saying that my mother was a police officer.

Today I still find myself proud but keeping quiet about her occupation, in fear that someone will not only target me, but target her as well.

Just like there are bad and good people in the world, there are bad and good police officers. But why do some people have such negative things to say about every police officer?

My mother, just like a many other police officers, loves her job. My mother has saved lives, comforted families when they received news that their loved one had died, and within her sector made countless friends just because of the person she is.

There have been nights that my mom hasn’t come home till the crack of dawn because of the call she was on. There have been nights where she comes home and is in complete silence because of what she just experienced on call a few hours before, and there have been nights where she has come home and thanked God that her children are healthy and well. My mother has seen stuff that none of us could imagine, things that will be in the back of her mind forever.

When you talk such negative things about the police force in this country, I sit there and listen and think to myself how could you ever say that about individuals who get up every morning to protect you, and who don’t know if they’ll even make it home tonight? I also think how could you possibly say that about my mother? About my mother’s best friends? About someone’s brother?

Being a police officer isn’t easy, especially being one in the last few months. Myself and other police family members shouldn’t have to pray everyday that they’ll make it home. We shouldn’t have to fear that they’ll be targeted just because of their occupation. We instead should be bragging about the lives they’ve saved, how they helped a girl escape her abusive boyfriend and how they caught a criminal, so we can all sleep peacefully tonight. We should be talking about all the wonderful things they do for every single one of us.

So to that individual that has this negative outlook, please read this article a million times and understand that yes, there’s a few bad ones in the bunch, but you’re going to see that within every occupation. Understand that there are police officers out there that will still be there protecting you no matter who you might be, even if you have all these negative things to say. Why will they still protect you? Because that is their job and they’ll proudly protect you because just like them, you’re someones father, brother, and son.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
