Things My Dog Needs To Know

These are the feelings that are always present but are never said.

Things My Dog Needs To Know
Lia Caruso

You are my best friend.

You were my first friend and my best friend, forever. No one will ever come between us; we have an unconditional love for each other. You're always around at just the right time: to comfort me, to cheer me up, to make me laugh, to cuddle, and to give the best slobbery kisses. I haven't had a life with any other dog but you, so you're kind of a big deal.

You are the best listener ever.

Sure you can't respond to what I'm telling you but hey, at least you're actually paying attention! It's so hard to find someone that is willing to actually sit down and listen to what you have to say, so it's fantastic to have you around. I can pour my heart out to you and you'll comfort me without speaking a single word. You don't have to say anything, you being there means enough. You just get me, much better than any other human ever could.

You will always be my puppy, no matter what age.

Yup, you maybe 13 years-old now, but you know what? You're still my puppy. You've been with me your whole life, including puppy-hood obviously, so it's no wonder you'll always be one to me. It's obvious that you never grew out of your puppy stage, so why would I consider you anything else? It's like everyone always says when someone gets older, "you're still a kid at heart".

You are the cutest dog.

You're my dog, so it's no wonder you're so cute. Even if you were considered the "world's ugliest dog", you'd always be the best looking in my eyes. I just want to squeeze all the cuteness out of you because sometimes it's just too much to handle. No one's dog could ever compare to you.

I show you off to all my friends.

Remember that one time you had to wear a cone? Yeah, I show them that picture. Remember when you learned how to roll-over? Yeah, I show them that video. I feel like I'm your mom, just proving to everyone why you're the best kid. I show them your embarrassing baby photos, your pictures after getting a haircut, and your puppy school pictures (even though you didn't end up graduating). Who cares if there are so-called "better dogs"? You're the best in my book!

I love you no matter what.

Sure you may have ripped my shoes, eaten out of the garbage can, tear the toilet paper off of the roll, peed on my favorite blanket, pooped on the carpet, and barfed up on the floor, but hey it happens. No matter what you do to make me angry, one look into your big, brown, puppy eyes and I melt like butter; I can never stay mad at you for too long. As Hannah Montana once said, "Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days. Everybody knows what I'm talking about, everybody gets that way". You are and will forever be the best and I'm so lucky to have you in my life. Sure you're just a dog to some people, but you mean so much more to me than that. We're the definition of best friends forever and I couldn't ask for it to be any other way.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
