All college students can relate to Midterm week. We find it overwhelming, stressful and even frustrating. Many of us have other commitments and responsibilities to attend to, that are just as important as keeping our grades up. I came up with Five suggestions that may be able to smoothen out the cramming process. (HOLSS)
1. Highlight
Highlighting the most important terms and definitions can facilitate the studying process. You can really save a lot of time by going straight to the paragraph or term that can help you remember examples of things spoken in class. Highlighting and remembering definitions and terms can help trigger the answers to many general questions.
2. Organize
Organization of all notes and information is essential for better test results. Placing all the notes for each class in the same section or the same notebook will make for a much easier review of the course work. Which helps to create study guides much faster.
3. Listen
You might not know all the course work but listening for due dates and exam dates can help you schedule reviews so that you can understand the more complex topics which you might be having trouble with. This way you don’t waste time trying learn the lessons the night before the exam and you can focus on studying.
4. Schedule
I can say don’t procrastinate at all but being a student myself, I’m aware that it doesn’t work that way all the time. If you have many classes don’t procrastinate for all them. Follow a steady schedule for the more challenging courses. Don’t fall behind on the course work or assignments. The easier courses give you room to allow more time for the other classes.
5. Study
Find out exactly what’s going to be on the test and create a study guide. Many professors provide the study guide which is really helpful and allows for students to stay on topic. If that’s not the case, then you will have to create one yourself. The good thing about creating a study guide yourself is that your time goes into good use because you are studying the course work simultaneously.
Many of the suggestions involve things that should be done during the week of exams and the weeks before, therefore the article can be helpful at anytime during the semester. Happy Studying and best of luck in all your exams!
