It's pretty cool living so close to one of the great cities in the world. The Big Apple has so much to offer for those who are visiting for the first time or if you're visiting for your 100th time. Even if you live there, lucky you. There is always something to do here. If you ever plan a weekend getaway or you're going for a day, here are some things you should think about adding on the list to see from my personal experience.
1. The High Line
With spring right around the corner, the High Line is a must-see. The High Line is an abandoned train track that runs about a mile and half long. It runs from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street. Along the track, you find an abundance of grasses, trees and flowers. Along the way, you'll also encounter different types of art, shops and food and multiple viewing spots to watch the hustle and bustle while enjoying nature.
2. The Sugar Factory
Have you scrolled on Instagram and seen a giant green drink with lollipops coming out of it? If so, you just looked at the Sugar Factory's signature drink, Lollipop Passion Goblet. This sweet restaurant is located in the Meatpacking District in New York. They do have tasty food, but what you come here for is the star attraction, the drinks. There are nine different goblets ranging from multiple flavors of 60-ounce drinks. You have the choice of dozens of martinis and cocktails (all available with or without alcohol). If that doesn't give you a toothache, then the food menu will, ranging from Nutella chocolate chip pancakes to s'mores crepes to warm apple pie. They also serve burgers and chicken fingers to help balance all the sweets. The Sugar Factory also offers a candy store when you first walk in.
3. Rockefeller Center
Even though the holidays have passed, I suggest everyone should go see the city during the holidays. Between the decorated store fronts and all the lights, the city is a great place to be. The main attraction is the Christmas tree. An iconic picture or movie scene — everyone wants their photo in front of it. Many will also wait to get the opportunity to ice skate down below. I suggest to get the VIP packet and not wait three hours for the public skate like I did.
4. Broadway
Everyone has heard of the award-winning shows. I haven't seen any recently, but I would suggest seeing the "Radio City Christmas Spectacular" during the holiday season. Other shows that you might look into would be "Wicked," "The Lion King" and "Hamilton."
5. Black Tap
A new and upcoming restaurant also found in the Meatpacking District is called the Black Tap. This small restaurant is covered in wood where people can leave their mark. The burgers here are phenomenal and well worth the price. But the real start attraction is the milkshakes. There are 4 major milkshakes: Sweet and salty, cotton candy, cookie shake and sour power. The picture really says it all.
I do visit the city quite often, and if I were to tell you every great place to visit, we would be here forever. But Times Square is a must, along with the Hershey Store, M&M Factory, Carmine's, Jekyll and Hyde, Wall Street, the Boat House, Central Park, Little Italy and so much more. One trip won't do, and if you're anything like me, you will learn to love the city.
