If you're reading this, you most likely have "Star Wars," "Hunger Games," or "Harry Potter" lover in some form on your social media bio. Alright, that may be a little extreme but you still could quote the entire movie. You may not be one to wear suspenders or tape your glasses together after they have split in half, but you definitely consider yourself a nerd — in the intellectual sense. You're completely comfortable with yourself, and that's totally OK. Who said nerds aren't cool?! The whole preconceived notion of nerds being uncool has to go. It needs to be thrown out the window and never thought of again. Being a nerd is completely awesome and here's why.
You are someone who loves to travel to different dimensions when you immerse yourself in a book. You look at things differently as well as have an alternative perception because you are able to transform yourself when you're submerged in each page. Your favorite place to shop is most likely Barnes and Noble, and let's be real, you could stay in there for hours and never get bored. You're the type of person who reads the book before the movie comes out because you've most likely read it ages before the idea a movie was even sparked.
It's understandable that you probably get upset when people become obsessed with a series that you have loved for so long. Not to mention, you love it for the beautiful text it is, not the hot celebrities that are cast as the leads. (Although that is a perk that you tend to have a guilty pleasure for.)
Another advantage of being a nerd is that you take pride in your work. You're constantly trying to better yourself when it comes to school and studying. You definitely do not settle for anything lower than what you believe is to be perfection and will continue to strive for that perfection. Whenever you do not do as well as you planned you constantly look for ways to do better. You most likely have a packed class schedule with all of the toughest classes possible, but you're okay with it because you love to better yourself when it comes to school.
It's time everyone embraces their inner nerd and becomes accepting of those who already have. You don't need to have the nerd starter pack (i.e. glasses, suspenders, converse, a huge backpack) to be one. It's an awesome life — the nerd life and his possibilities are endless. You have a stack of books in your room that are your pride and joy, you enjoy having meaningful conversations, and you constantly strive for the absolute best. Who wouldn't want to be a nerd?
