Why Being Tall Is A Blessing And A Curse

Being tall is a blessing and a curse. As a young woman who is 5-foot-11, I have heard more than my fair share of comments about my height:

1. How tall are you?

2. Do you play basketball/volleyball?
(And when you say no they get all shocked. Height does NOT correlate with talent, people.)

3. You are too tall to wear heels.

4. I can't stand next to you. I look like a kid.

5. Wow it must be so hard to find tall guys.
It is. But when we do find them, we are all like:

Guys always say they love short girls, but when they realize they want their kids to be sports stars, they'll come crawling back to us.

Having to hear these things almost on a daily basis is both repetitive and annoying, but I wouldn't trade my height for anything. I used to hate my height because it made me different than all of the other girls my age. It wasn't until sophomore year of high school (after the boys had caught up in height) that I was comfortable in my almost 6-foot-tall body. Being tall rocks and brings people together, just like any other trait does because we tall girls stick together. I know I'm not the only one who has taken a picture with a stranger at a party solely because they were just as tall as me. There's so much to love about our height, so why not take advantage of it.

Here are only a few of the endless reasons why being tall rules:

1. You can always see everything.
You always knew where your parents hid the cookies, because you could see on top of the fridge. Your friends rely on you to find "the runner" at the party. Being able to make eye contact with a hottie at a party just because you are at the same eye level is the best. We are living it up while all the short girls are just like:

2. Our legs look AMAZING in just about anything.
Give us a pair of shorts, a nice dress or a totally fun and flirty skirt and we promise to knock you dead with our never-ending legs. The only downside is how long it takes to shave these babies.

3. Height is an intimidation factor.
Annoying girl trying to cut you in line for drinks? Creepy guy at a party? Chances are you're taller than them so work what you got to make them go away.

4. We can get places faster.
Late to class? Bus is late? We can walk faster than you run.

They're also good at avoiding things, like puddles. We will be safe and dry while the shorties are just like:

5. Always getting shotgun.

"I'm taller than you so I need more leg room." #sorrynotsorry

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
