So, It Was a Bad Break Up

13

It ended badly; she cheated, he lied. It is time to move on. The girl gets out the ice cream and movies; the guy throws a few things around and acts immature. The ping pong of emotions goes back and forth. If it ended so badly, why fix why bother trying to fix it? Why should I have to wear a certain shirt to a date? Or convert to your stupid music? Why change who you are just to fit the parameters of someone who clearly doesn’t appreciate you for you? Kurt Cobain said it best: “I would rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I’m not.”

Bad breakups happen, and that should not get in the way of your pursuit of happiness. When I say bad breakup, I mean horrendously terrible, monumentally catastrophic -- to the point where you cannot even be friends. At that point, you should not even bother.

With social media, and everyone always having a watchful eye, it is best to delete them entirely, as if they never existed. That seemed to work for me. I don’t know if it tears them up or not, nor do I care. Emotions do not come from the heart, only the mind. Letting that person walk all over your mind is not fair to you and can only drag you down.

I am no love guru, nor did I write the book on relationships. I’m a common man, and like every other person I have feelings. I have highs and lows, good days and bad days. Like every other growing man, I have good relationships, as well as bad. In fact, most have ended up as bad, terrible, miserable roller coasters. Everyone's stories are different, so I can’t speak for everyone on how a relationship should be and, more importantly, how it should end.

Growing up, I have tried it all. Worst part of any relationship is the separation, and the feelings that come from the fallout. Some of us are blessed with relationships that end on good terms, although for most, it seems to end in a giant cluster of emotions and feelings. One of the most immature breakups I’ve dealt with was dating my ex-best friend. But if it wasn’t for her, then I wouldn’t have ended up the one -- not to be cliché, but the one that got away.

The big part of handling a breakup is learning to be mature about it, as well as grow. Learn from the mistakes that you and your significant other have made.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
