Snowy Days

When the snowflakes fall, this is what I feel.

Snow to me is one thing in life that warms my heart. It brings a sense of nostalgia of when I was a child and just how much I loved watching the snow fall. Watching the snow build and collect on the streets, yards, and houses. The blankets of snow were just so beautiful and I could barely stand it. I was always bothered when people would walk through their yards instead of taking the little walkway. I felt that it would disrupt the beauty with a line of footprints going through the snow. Eventually I would come to enjoy them when I would try to match my feet with the ones that were already left there. My stride and feet were sometimes a bit too small, so I would occasionally stumble. But I wouldn't fret too much over it.

Before I was born, there was a blizzard, something I have never seen before. I would be rather excited to see that amount of snow. I wouldn't really know what to do if I saw that. I know the city would be in pretty much a stand still until the roads were cleared enough for people to actually drive through and be productive. This year, my dad surprised my older brother by building him a Batmobile out of snow. My dad said it took him about 3 hours to complete, but I can only imagine how excited my brother was when he saw the completed work. We have pictures from that day, and I wish I could have seen it all for myself.

Thinking about the snowy days growing up, I always knew grown ups would hate it with a burning passion. Now that I am an adult and I am driving, I know what they disliked about it. But I still love the snow as much as I did as a child. Even though I now have to go out to my car and start it so that it can warm up, I do not mind it. I enjoy brushing off the snow with my big ice scrapper and cleaning off as little snow as possible on the top and back. I want my car to have as much snow on it as possible before it either flies off from the wind or melts away. I know that many adults do not like the snow because it does make traveling difficult. There are a lot of accidents on the road. I have been in one myself due to black ice. But even though there are all of these different things that cause a downside due to snow, I am always going to enjoy it just a little bit more than others.

This is just a little personal article on my views of snow. I might add something or even edit this one a little. I just want others to know the beauty that I feel when I see snow. I always hope for a big snow fall every winter. With our changing climate over the past 10 years, it has become less and less common. I hope we are able to bring about a new generation that will someday know what it is like to be cold and to have snow all winter long.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
