Every year, for the past 6 years, a country music festival is held during Memorial Day weekend in Baton Rouge at Tiger Stadium. It is the biggest country music festival in Louisiana, and even gains attendance from some people out-of-state. The concert line-up is always huge and is released in November, giving everyone plenty of time to get their tickets. In honor of the line-up release coming soon for Bayou Country Superfest 2016, I want to give you a little sneak peak into what BCS is all about.
1) The line-up in the past really has been AMAZING
I went to Bayou Country Superfest for the first time in 2014. The headliners of the festival were Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Florida Georgia Line. Can it get any better than that? I don't think so. I was fortunate enough to go again this year, with Kenny Chesney, Brantley Gilbert, Miranda Lambert, and Blake Shelton as the headliners.
2) It's HOT
And no, I'm not talking about the performers. Even though it is safe to say, they're all very good looking. I mean come on, who wouldn't want to stare at Brantley Gilbert while he performs live. The weather in South Louisiana in May is not appealing, at all. It's hot, humid, and last year it poured, delaying some performances when it started to lightning.
3) It's a LONG weekend
The festival starts the Friday night before Memorial Day, and ends on Sunday. You can attend every day, one day, two days, or whatever you choose. In the past, I've attended the whole Saturday and Sunday of the festival. They have a fan fest beginning around 11 or noon, but the big name performances don't begin in Tiger Stadium until around 5 o'clock. And don't even think about going to bed before midnight, because it just won't happen.
4) People get VERY crazy
Yes, there is plenty of alcohol being sold before the festival and during the festival. We wouldn't be in South Louisiana if there wasn't alcohol being sold at 11 o'clock in the morning. Everyone, whether they're sober or not, gets really excited during the festival. It's a fun weekend to spend with friends and listen to great music. It can get a little crazy, though. People have fainted from the heat and large crowds. I got beer spilled all over me the first year I went. People cry for no reason, scream, and break the rules. There is never a dull moment.
5) It's a BLAST
Despite the long days, lack of sleep, heat, crazy people and moments, it is always a weekend I look forward to. Getting to spend time with my friends and family, listening to good music, and seeing some of my favorite performers live is amazing. Who knows, you might even run into someone famous while you are there. In the past, Jason Aldean attended even when he wasn't performing. Toby Keith, Willie Robertson, and Sean Payton have also attended.
I can't wait for Bayou Country Superfest 2016! I hope I get to attend, and you should, too. It is an unforgettable experience that will leave you with many stories to tell in the future.
