For those of you who aren't familiar with a Snapchat streak, let me fill you in on it a little bit. Snapchat, probably the most popular social media app for teenagers right now, released an update a while ago allowing you and one other persone to snapchat for several consecutive days and have what is called a "streak" with them. If you AND your friend don't both send a Snap within 24 hours, you will lose your snap streak. Oh yeah, and you can have as many streaks as you want. The goal is to keep the streak alive, so once you start a streak with somebody you must not end it. Why, you ask? Well, because your friend will be very mad at you.
By the way, I'm pretty sure every parent knows about snapchat by now, considering it is the most treacherous form of communication ever.
I can't say that I am not guilty of having a snapchat streak, because I have 25 of them and I will admit that it is very hard to keep up with all twenty-five. You have to make sure to send them a snap everyday and on top of that you have to make sure they do the same, just because you don't want it to end.
All of this got me to thinking "Why do I not make sure to read my Bible everyday, but I make sure to keep my snapchat streaks alive?" It kind of hit me hard when I thought about that. The first thing I do on my phone every morning is go to snapchat and send a snap to all the people I have a streak with, but I do not do that with the Bible. I find myself straying away from the Bible, because I start to put the world before God. But what I should be doing is putting God before the world. We should be on fire for God, but instead we are so caught up in the social media world.
I challenged myself to start a "Snapchat Streak With God". And I want to challenge other people to do it too. So when you wake up or maybe before you go to sleep, make sure that you have talked to God, prayed to Him, or the read the Bible. Do the same thing the next day within 24 hours and continue for several consecutive days. You will then have a "streak" with God and I promise He wants one with you too. Fall into His word and not the negative things this world has to offer. When we get to the gates of Heaven, the highest number of consecutive days you have with your best friend on Snapchat won't matter. Your streak with God will matter. If I have time to keep up with 25 streaks, I know that I will have time to keep up with my streak with God. And you can too, so make time in your day for Him.
Romans 12:2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
