Falling in love with an artist is a whole lot like speed dating. You've got a couple minutes to woo your listener and hope what you're saying really resonates. Well, I fell in love with Zeds Dead back in 2012 when I first heard their remix of Bon Iver's "Woods." Fast forward to 2016, I'm still digging the sounds, but I don't really know much about the duo. Thanks to Smirnoff Sound Collective, I've recently rekindled my love affair as this latest mini-documentary takes a behind the scenes look at Zeds Dead's creative journey from two friends bonding over artistic similarities in a basement to building a brand and sound that will be played in households everywhere.
LEAP follows Zeds Dead to their hometown in Toronto where the dynamic duo reveal their family roots, influences, and their DIY mentality as well as the hunger that fed their debut album "Northern Lights," and the fuel to fire that led to their own imprint DeadBeats Records.
I've watched Zeds Dead from crowded stages to packed clubs, but I've never seen an intimate look like this. Now, I can listen to "Northern Lights" with a whole new appreciation and give props to the guys that always knew Zed was never dead.
