Every day is an opportunity to do little things that can positively influence at least one persons day. There are so many small ways to show kindness and help improve the world we live in. This idea came to me when I went to fill my gas tank and the man next to me put the remaining amount of money from his gas pump into my tank. It was only about $3 of gas, but his small act of kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity encouraged me to go and do a small act of kindness for someone else that day. so here are some ways that you too can do small things that can make a big impact.
1. Hold the door for someone.
This one is so simple and almost seems too easy, but you'd be surprised how happy a mom with 3 kids who is out grocery shopping will be when you hold the door open for her. It's one less thing that she has to worry about.
2. Pay for the person behind you in a drive-thru.
Of course within your budget, but paying for the person behind you's coffee in the morning will surely brighten their day automatically. I've had this done for me before, and I was so surprised that I paid for the person behind me, and how cool would it have been if they kept up the trend?
3. Rather than playing on your phone, look up and smile.
Whether you're by yourself in a grocery store or with friends at a mall, simply smiling at the people around you is a small way to show kindness. People who tend to use their phones as a scape-goat for awkward situations don't tend to radiate kindness or friendliness. Put your phone down and appreciate the world around you.
The list of doing small things to show kindness truly could be endless. Here are just a few ideas for you to try out. Consider doing one small act of kindness a day. If we all did it, think of how different the world might be.
