Small Towns Are The Best Places To Live, And No One Can Convince Me Otherwise

Every person who lives in a small town will tell you it's the best. They are most likely from the country or some small town that people have never even heard of. However, they are not lying to you when they say living in a small town is the best.

No, there may not be a ton to do around their town like there would be if you lived in New York and could go do something new every single night of the week. But that's not what a small town is about. A small town is about community; it's about being close with your neighbors and knowing their names. It's about being able to help your community whether they live 20 minutes away from you or right down the road.

I have lived in small town for my entire life. I grew up in Hancock County in a small town called Wilkinson, Indiana. I went to high school with only 86 people in my entire class. The largest that graduated from my high school was 125. We were tiny. But that is what I loved about it. Every football game, basketball game, or volleyball game the school had, everyone was there and you always had someone to sit next to, talk to, and cheer on.

Traditions in a small town are such an important thing, too. There are unspoken traditions such as the senior class always leading the cheer block or that you went to Steak 'n Shake after basketball games and Applebee's after football games.

People in small towns always joke about just driving around and finding something to do or driving around till you end up at Walmart and getting kicked out. But these aren't really jokes. I cannot tell you how many times my friends and I have taken a midnight drive around our county and having deep conversations about life. Sometimes, a big group of us would go out and end up at Walmart. We play volleyball in the isles at the store until they ask us politely to leave. Of course, we knew everyone who worked there, so we didn't get in that much trouble.

In all seriousness, the community around a small town is unmatched. If there is a death or a loss in one of the families of the community, everyone reaches out to them and makes sure they're doing OK.

There may not be a lot to do in my small town, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I have had so many lessons taught to me by my small little town out in Hancock County that I never would've gotten otherwise, like everyone should make friends with the cops around the school so if you ever get pulled over you can get out of a ticket.

Are there drawbacks of living in a small town? Of course. There are drawbacks to living in any kind of town. But I would not trade my county, my town, or my experiences for anything else in this entire world. My town will forever be a happy place. My town will forever be my family, and I know that they will always be here for me if I need them.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
