How to survive spring break in a small town.

Small Town To Big City: Spring Break Edition

I'm the first to admit that growing up in a small town has its perks: the safety factor, the "quaint" charm, and just the feeling of being home. However, after spending seven months of the year about an hour away from Manhattan, going back to home is a complete change of pace. It's like going 100mph then quickly decelerating down to 10mph. As this upcoming week is known for many colleges as spring break, and not everyone goes away, here are some tips on how to get through spring break when where you're going doesn't have a lot going on.

1. Go Outside!

My hometown is located in southern New Hampshire, about an hour and a half from Boston, and 30 to 40 minutes from any big name store. We're completely surrounded by trees. If your hometown is like that, take advantage of nature and go outside. Take a hike, see the world from a different view. If hiking's not your thing, just sit outside and enjoy the beauty of nature around you!

2. Read a Book

Unplug for a while and just read a good old fashion book. Although technology is great, actual books hold memories that iPads, Kindles and Nooks can't duplicate.

3. Catch up on the Beauty Sleep

I am the first to admit that at school I don't nearly get enough sleep. Spring break is the perfect time to catch up! Get all rested up because before you know it, you'll be back at school again.

4. Catch up on that TV Show You've Been Meaning to Watch

My list of shows that my friends tell me "I have to see" keeps getting longer and longer. During school, there just aren't enough hours in the day to watch everything on top of my school work. Now is the perfect time to catch up on "AHS" or "The Walking Dead!"

5. Stay on Top of That Homework

I know this is the time no one wants to think about school, but if you have assignments due when you get back, make sure you don't do everything the night before. Take this time to leisurely do your papers.

6. Do Something you Haven't Done in a While

Since I've come back to college after winter break, I've noticed there are many activities I used to do that I simply don't have time for during the academic semester. Take this time to explore those activities again!

7. Spend Time With Your Family

Being away at school is great because you have ultimate freedom. However, you have to realize you've been gone since January!

8. Enjoy Your Town

It's not nearly as busy as Manhattan, but there's something nice and relaxing about not having to worry you're going to get hit by a car while crossing the street. Spend some time at your local bookstore and café.Take a walk by the river, or sit in a park and people watch!

9. Take a Walk

It's not only exercise, but a nice breath of fresh air, quite literally. Taking a walk is a great way to clear your mind too!

10. Go to the Movies

There's nothing quite like a movie theater experience, as great as Netflix is. Spring sreak is a great time to hit up the movie theaters with your friends, especially since most school districts aren't on break. The theaters won't be nearly as crowded!

11. See your Friends

I know this is a highlight of my breaks. My friends and I are really close, and not having seen them since January was hard. Spring break is a great time to catch up, and even if all your friends aren't home, the chances are some of them will be! (Also, let me note that this picture took a minimum of 10 tries to get just right. I love my friends, but they are very hard to take a nice picture with.)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
