As a freshman in college, everything is new. The campus layout, all the buildings, the library, living in the dorms and the scariest shock to the system; finals week. Even after all that, coming home somehow becomes new. The switch back from college life to hometown life can be rather drastic and here are all the ways I'm realizing how.

1) Figuring out how to pack to go home

This isn't normal? I'm going home, so why do I need a suitcase? Did I really leave myself nothing to fend with back at home? No, you didn't, so you better not forget anything important because you're locked out of the dorms until January.

2) Living with your mom again

This might be the most bittersweet. Oh, how you've missed your mom and her sweet nature, but oh, how you haven't missed someone telling you what to do and being her errand-boy.

3) Having a car again

If you're a freshman like me, and you didn't spring for the parking pass, then you know how nice it is to have your car again. It's like the world has renewed itself to you. Everything is available at your fingertips! But then you realize...

4) Being restricted to your hometown entertainment

Going back to my hometown means going back to two McDonalds, a KFC and a Taco-Bell. That also means a thirty-minute drive for a movie theater and the rest of your means of entertainment are up to the imagination. Should we 1)drive around the backstreets or 2) the (one and only) highway?

5) Where are the meal swipes?

Being on a meal plan at school means endless Chick-fil-A, until you come home and you have to round up $2.11 in spare car change to buy a steak quesorito from t-bell. Can I go back to the large deluxe sandwich meals, please?

6) Those random texts from high school 'acquaintances'

And I use acquaintance as a loose term. Unless we had an amazing connection and for some reason fell out of touch when we went on our respective paths, I don't exactly want to make polite conversation with you Billy. I don't care about your crazy day driving around the backroads (you see he took option number one in things to do), and I definitely don't want to start hanging out now.

7) Reuniting with your old BFFs

Now, these are the kind of people I want to see lighting up my phone. Getting the whole old crew together again is the best feeling. The heartwarming little buzz you get when you all get to see each other again is always something to look forward to. So should we drive the backroads or the highway this time guys?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
