Small Town Blues

You either love it, or you hate it.

Growing up in a small town can be the best or worst thing in the world.

I grew up in a town where all the students went to same school system because we only had one. My graduating class was only 133 people and that was considered big! With only having that many people in your grade and maybe 600 people in the high school; everyone knows each other, which can be absolutely obnoxious. When something happens at school between couples everyone would know and it didn’t matter if the situation was big or small. You really had to be careful and pick wisely who you told your business to. I only had a select group of friends I would hang out with every day but at the same time I knew practically everyone in my grade, I just chose to stay acquaintances with them instead of being closer.

If school wasn’t bad enough, the entire town was only three miles long and maybe three miles wide. You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone you knew; avoiding people was practically impossible. The biggest store we had was Walmart and for some reason everyone would hang out there if they didn’t have anything to do. So I avoided that place like the plague. I didn’t hate the people in my town or the people at my high school, but I’m a person where when I go to a store or something I like to get in and get out. I hate socializing unless I’m just killing time, which wasn’t often.

Even now having graduated two and a half years ago, I still hate going home. I just go straight home and see my family and friends and I try not to see anyone else. My town is one of those towns where it is very easy to get stuck in and I will never let that happen to me.The closest place to do anything fun like movie theaters, malls, or nightclubs is at least 45 minutes, which is obnoxious to drive to because the traffic is always worse in huge cities.

I’m just so glad I got out after high school and stayed out of that town.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
