Between submitting what feels like hundreds of job applications, eventually a few will work out in your favor, if someone reaches out to you and asks for a phone, skype, or in-person interview. When preparing for your interviews, be sure to keep these tips in mind.
1. Research both the company history and job responsibilities
Be sure to spend extra time on the job responsibilities that you have prior experience with, and be sure to highlight those experiences, completed with the accompanying stories if the project if it was a success, or else lessons learned if it was not.
2. Have follow up questions prepared
As part of your research, be sure to have 2 or 3 questions ready to ask the interviewer. Most candidates are so busy memorizing their own elevator pitches, resumes, and other information that pertains to them, that they forget that an interview is one of the only times to find out as much as possible about the role from people you will potentially be working with. Having questions beforehand can help reduce stress or panic that may occur when having to improvise under pressure.
3. Choose your outfit the night or day before your interview.
The mornings of your interview can be stressful enough without the additional panic of looking professional or put together. Avoid the stress by planning out what you'll be wearing the night before, and give yourself time to steam or iron!
As per most professional development cases, preparation is key. The last tip is to stay calm. While interviews can be nerve-wracking, the employers want to fill the position just as badly as you want the job. Good luck!
