Being a below average height has its challenges, but the amusing thing about having a disability that puts you under four feet are the situations you encounter on a daily basis.
1. I am either an adult or a child, there is no in between.
To say this statement is an exaggeration would be laughable. Do you know how flattering and awkward my teenage years were? Yes, I have the cuteness factor of a young child, but please do not talk to me as if I were one.
2. Crowds are not my friend.
They should instead be referred to as short people death traps.
Friend: "Hey, let's go to the front row!"
Me: *Sees people flailing their limbs* "No, thanks."
3. Children think I'm some child-messiah.
Remember how as a kid you would associate height with age? Well, I'm the walking paradox no one ever mentions. I'm the height of an average 6 year old with the mentality of a college aged student. So to children, I appear to be a kid with magical abilities capable of tricking adults into believing I am one of them.
4. Friends often forget how short I actually am.
It's no big deal really, until it is.
Friend: "Hey, let's go on this roller coaster!"
Me: "Oh, I don't meet its height requirement."
Friend: "But the minimum requirement is 53 inches."
Me: "I'm under four feet. I've mentioned this at least 15 times."
Friend: "Wait. What?"
Unfortunately, personality doesn't translate into extra inches!
5. I have my own invisibility cloak.
One minute we're having a side-by-side conversation, the next minute I'm gone. The trick? I've switched sides because I didn't want to walk into that oncoming group of prospective students.
