6 Money-Saving Tips For Every College Student

A common stereotype of the college student is how broke we are. In most cases, this is completely true! Many students don't work while the semester is going on, but only work on summer breaks. When looking at our bank accounts, we contemplate whether or not a new shirt or a new game is really worth it. In order to save some money, I have some tips and tricks on how to pinch pennies throughout the semester.

1. Shop Clearance and Sales

The first stop in any store you go to is the clearance section. You can sometimes find the best deals there. Using an American Eagle gift card I received as a gift, I went to the clearance section when their additional 60% off sale and picked up a $50 jacket and 2 $20 T-Shirts for $28! Other great deals can be found at stores, such as Victoria's Secret and Bath and Body Works when they have their Semi-Annual Sale.

2. Shop Online

Most of us follow this one already for textbooks, but it can also save a lot of money for other things too. Many times I've walked into stores and price checked on Amazon for cheaper. Even some physical stores have better online prices on their websites. Shopping online is also convenient because you can do it while in your pajamas drinking coffee!

3. Find Online Deals

If you know you want or need to purchase something, it's always a good idea to look online for a deal or sale from other websites. For an example, I needed a new pillow. I went onto my Instagram account where I follow some deal accounts and saw that Tina from Free Stuff Finder found a deal from Kohls for a $3 pillow. I instantly ordered two and picked them up at the local store. How can you beat 2 fluffy pillows for $7?

4. Save Food From the Dining Hall

This one is a little more unorthodox, but it'll save you some cash. If your dining hall is buffet style, bring your backpack with containers, grab whatever you'd like to eat, bring it to a table, and unload your food into Tupperware or plastic bags for later. College students have been doing it for years and while yes it is frowned upon, you're still saving some dough!

5. Don't Always Eat Out

This one is a given. You probably already pay for a meal plan on campus, which means you should use the meal points and meal swipes that you already paid for. Of course you can go out to eat every now and again, but do be mindful of how much you're paying for food around town.

6. Buy Only What You Need

I know I have this issue of buying random stuff that I'll use once or twice, or wanting to purchase something just because I can. It isn't good to do this if you don't have a steady income. Even if something looks nice online, save it in a list when you have an income or ask for it as a gift on a holiday.

There are many reasons as to why people don't work during the semester or need to save money, and that's okay! These tips can save you a lot of money that can help go towards your tuition, car payment, or a new outfit.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
