Six "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" Segments You Need to See

Donald Trump met his match on Sunday, February 28th, in British comedian and TV host, John Oliver. The YouTube video of Oliver's deconstruction of the mythical Donald Trump has now been viewed over 17 million times since the segment aired on his HBO show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. The hashtag campaign he started, #makeDonaldDrumpfagain, was the number one trending hashtag on Twitter and Facebook all of Monday and still trending on Tuesday and Wednesday after the show aired on February 28th.

There's no doubt that John Oliver's witty and well executed comic reviews have had their effects on a viral scale. The effects of his show have even held significance in the highest court in the land, The U.S. Supreme Court. His popularity and the credibility in which his audience holds him to is a phenomenon in itself. His topics are well researched, he remains neutral in hot topic issues while still managing to point out the shortcomings in each, and he has an incredible ability to make even the dullest of topics entertaining.

I am a big fan and loyal viewer of is show. His show keeps me entertained and, more importantly, up to date on critical national and international news. I encourage anyone of any age to start watching his show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (airing Sunday nights on HBO or clips on YouTube), not only because because you're going to learn about what's really going on in our world while being entertained.

Here are 6 must-watch segments of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver to give you an idea of why this show is so important:

1. Tobacco

Americans tend not to think Big Tobacco is really a pressing issue anymore but John Oliver comes in to inform us of the evil and havoc tobacco companies are bringing overseas to the rest of the world.

2. NCAA

March Madness is upon us but do we really know what a toll the "madness" takes upon student athletes of the NCAA?

3. Paid Family Leave

America is the only developed country on Earth that does not guarantee paid maternity leave and doesn't provide any paternal leave at all, paid or unpaid.

4. Donald Trump

John Oliver spends almost an entire show relentlessly dismantling the myth of Donald Trump and each of his so-called "strengths". #makedonalddrumpfagain

5. Mandatory Minimums

The United States has the highest rate of incarceration in the world (higher than China!) and there's a frightening reason why.

6. Net Neutrality

Oliver makes one of the dullest yet most critical issues regarding the freedom of the internet hilariously entertaining. This segment was even cited by the Supreme Court in their rulings on Net Neutrality.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
