I often find myself chasing after things and very rarely sitting back and letting life take its natural course. Sometimes I forget that the things I am chasing after may not be the best things for me and that they might just not be meant to be. Throughout high school, I, and plenty of others chased after many things: friendships, relationships, dream colleges, jobs- the list goes on and on. We all had those things that we desperately wanted and that we thought we would sacrifice anything for. What I did not realize in the midst of the craziness of high school is that you shouldn't have to chase after things. I learned that the best thing to do is go about your life the way you want to live it and just allow God to direct you in the direction you are meant to go in.
In high school, I had a few personal experiences with chasing after things that were not meant to be, and these certain experiences taught me the importance of patience and trust in something greater than I could imagine. First, I learned that if someone is meant to be in your life, you will not have to chase after them. They will always be there for you, no matter the circumstances. You should not beg someone to be in your life, and if that is the case, they are not supposed to be in your life anymore. You deserve to be surrounded by people who are as passionate about you as you are about them. Secondly, I learned that sometimes the plans you have for the future, such as where you want to go to college, may not be the plans that are meant to be. Instead of fighting against what is laid out for you, allow it to happen and trust that it is what's best.
Sometimes God will answer your prayers with "no." This does not mean he wants to fail you and make you unhappy; it just means that he has something bigger and better worth waiting for. Instead of being bound in bitterness when one of your prayers is not answered, be grateful that you have something else waiting for you out there. Stop chasing after things that are not meant to be in the picture. Trust me, if something is meant to be, it will most definitely be. Let go of the steering wheel and let life happen the way it is meant to; you will be pleasantly surprised.
