To my sister in law,

First of all, I’m going to start by saying thank you for marrying my irritating, obnoxious, embarrassing and loving older brother, Levi. You may think you're the luckiest girl in the world now that you have his last name, but I consider myself just as lucky now that he has someone else to bother besides me.

Let’s jump back to the beginning. The “beginning” was about eight years ago. We were outside playing catch while we were waiting for my mom to finish cooking dinner. I remember you looking into my eyes and nonverbally telling me that you were about to throw the ball to me, but my glove and the ball never met, my forehead and the ball did instead. I dropped to my knees crying as you and Levi came to help me. I’m not sure if it is more embarrassing for you hitting me in the face with a softball or for me not being able to catch a softball from a few yards away. Either way, it was time for us to go inside and enjoy dinner which happened to be a meal that you will refuse to eat, seafood. Although you made me cry and refused to eat the food my mom made, I knew there was something special about you since the very first day we met.

I had wished for an older sister for as long as I can remember, but it was such an unreasonable wish until you came along. Since day one, you were there for me; you took me in as your little sister and let me tell you, I have loved every second of it. You were there for every high school dance, helping me do my hair and get ready for the big night. You were there through every heartbreak. You held me tight as I balled my eyes out thinking I would never get over the pain that some loser put me through. You put cucumbers on my eyes so that I wouldn't wake up with red, puffy eyes and you also gave me NyQuil so I could at least catch a few Z’s. You were in the audience at my dance recitals (and managed to drag Levi along) and made me feel so special when you congratulated me and the end of each show with a hug and a bouquet of flowers. You were there for me when my so called “friends” put me through a year of hell. You gave me some of the best advice as well as the courage to stand up against them and prove myself to be the better person. You are there for me when I need advice, need comfort, need support, need a good laugh, need a friend and need love. You are also there for me with ice cream (my favorite!!) when I have a bad day. I could go on and on, but to sum it up, you have been and continue to be there for me through it all and I can’t even begin to thank you for it.

November 15, 2014, the day your name changed from Holli Lowry to Holli Hahn which officially brought you into my family forever. You looked like a princess that day; your hair was perfect, your make up was perfect, your dress was perfect, your smile was perfect and the wedding that you had so beautifully planned out was indeed perfect. I will never forget this day, as long as I live. It was such a special wedding to be a part of and it happened to be the wedding that gave me the older sister I’ve always wished for who I can call one of my very own best friends.

You are no doubt the older sister of my dreams and you will always have a special place in my heart. We may not be sisters by blood, but we are sisters by marriage and it is the bond we share that counts, not the blood.

Love always,

your forever friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
