My sister is ten years younger than me. Even though she gets on my nerves 99% of the time, there is that 1% where I can actually stand to be around her. Here are five reasons why I actually love that she is ten years younger than me:
1. She keeps me young.
She is always making sure I know about the best new songs and movies. She makes sure that I have fun instead of always being an "adult." She is in her pre-teenager stage, so we don't play with Barbie dolls, but we do watch movies and talk about boys. I get to enjoy her boy-crazy stage. She makes me remember what life is all about.
2. She loves to experience new things that I already love
Since I am ten years older than her, I grew up with different kinds of music and movies. I am lucky enough that she allows me to show her the things I loved when I was her age. She has an open mind and she actually likes anything that is shown to her. When we are in the car, we usually listen to the music I choose. She finds a song she likes from ten years ago and she sticks with it for a while, right now she is stuck on "Year 3000" by the Jonas Brothers.
3. She is too small to wear my clothes.
I grew up with a sister who was two years older than me and she always would wear my clothes. That is why I love that Selena is too small to enjoy my clothes. I don't have to worry about wanting to wear a sweater and it not being in my closet. My clothes are mine and mine only and that is a beautiful feeling. Side note: sometimes this can be diffiicult for me because she has a cute style.
4. She makes me want to be a good role model.
I have always been the good girl and the girl who never gave up. I always did that for myself, though, but now I do it so she has a good role model. I want her to have someone who she can look up to. I want her to see that she can have whatever she wants as long as she fights for it. I want to succeed so she knows that she can succeed, too. I want her to have a great life and I want to be the person she looks up to for support and inspiration for that great life.
5. I have a best friend for life.
No matter what happens in life, I will always have my little sister. She will always be the person I tell all my secrets to. Even with our age difference, she is my best friend. She is the person I go to when I need to cry or when I need a good laugh. She is my person. I know that one day she will probably be my maid of honor at my wedding. I know that she will probably have her own room at my future house. She is my sidekick and I will love her for the rest of our lives. She is my best friend for life.
