Finals are coming up, and that may mean you lose your head. But as we know, dead men with no heads can't be resurrected. Thanks for asking that pivotal question Arya, its really made me reevaluate my life. To keep your head on completely, and to keep it screwed on just right (Dr. Seuss fans, anyone?), lets take a break from studying the lineage of the British Empire and get down to real business. We all know that the Targaryen household ruled Europe anyway
You may have been under a rock, or lamenting Ned Stark while being held prisoner under Casterly Rock, but in case you missed the most important event of the week: A Game of Thrones season six snippet went live.
Whether your a casual viewer, book reader, or avid follower of the mother of dragons, we can all agree that absolutely no one knows what is about to happen in season six. Up until now each of the seasons have been based roughly (very, very roughly) on the books of A Song of Ice and Fire, more commonly known as Game of Thrones. But, seeing as the time between two books being published spanned six years, the show is going to finish before the final installments of the books are even written. That means we will know who sits on the Iron Throne before we get to read about it. But that also means that those of us who have read the books are going to be able to get the most out of the final seasons of the show because we wont be able to compare the character story lines, or lack thereof (Coldhands and Lady Stoneheart, I'm speaking to you.), to the books.
More importantly though, are the speculations that come with the season six snippet. Obviously the world has pronounced Jon Snow alive. Does this mean that he never died, or does it mean that a certain red mistress happened to find his body laying on the ground? Whatever it may be (we're all rooting for the latter), the words of the Nights Watch are "...and now my watch begins, it shall not end until death...I shall wear no crowns and win no glory..." If Snow did die then his watch has ended, leaving him with an honorable way to leave the Nights Watch and avenge his brother. Which brother though? Rob Stark or Aegon Targaryen?
I have a feeling that the bastard son of Ned Stark is going to become a major game changer this season. George R. R. Martin stated that he left A Dance With Dragons unfinished and that the next book was going to start off with two huge battles. "one in the ice and one in mereen" aka Jon Snow leading the host of the North and Daenerys breaking the chains, like she does so often, and letting her dragons loose once more.
Speculation aside, the promo trailer ends with Bran Stark saying in an ominous voice over, "They have no idea whats going to happen." Bran, you may be referencing the white walkers, or you may be speaking directly of the audience, but you're right either way. No one has any clue whats about to happen.
Season six of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO in April, while the sixth book The Winds of Winter still has yet to been given a release date. Until then, here is the season six promo trailer.
Have a great week and remember to bundle up as the temperature drops, for winter is coming.
