From New Year's Eve kisses to mistletoe, the holiday season can be pretty tough when you are single considering this was a time of year that we all counted down to as kids. I can promise you that being in a relationship during the holidays is 100 percent overrated. The idea of having someone special during this magical time of year has been commercially romanticized practically since the beginning of time. Not having to worry and care about another human makes your life so much easier. So trust me when I say there are definitely benefits to being single this holiday season.
1. Stress-Free Gift Shopping
Holiday shopping for family and friends definitely adds stress to your life, especially if the gift's for your significant other. During the holidays, you don’t have the patience to search through stores when every shopping center is packed from sun up to sun down. Take this chance to embrace being single and use that money to treat yourself to a pair of new boots. While your friends fret over buying him J. Crew socks or a Patagonia sweatshirt, you'll be strutting your stuff in your new boots.
2. Quality Family Time
After being away from home since August, it always feels good to come back and spend quality time catching up with your family. Of course you'll have to answer a series of questions that pertain to your life in college, but enjoy the time with them now, because you'll definitely miss them once you return.
3. The Mistletoe
Kissing under the mistletoe is an old tradition, and let me tell you, that stuff is plentiful around the holiday season. It’s a perfectly good excuse to kiss a cutie and not apologize for it! So take advantage of being single and work that mistletoe.
4. Treat Yo Self
From Christmas cookies to candy canes, we all tend to eat a little extra around the holidays season. So eat that extra cookie girl, you ain’t got anyone to impress. It’s cold out, keep yourself warm.
5. Movie Night Every Night
Cuddle up near the fire, bundle yourself in blankets and grab your cup of hot chocolate to watch a holiday classic. Enjoy ABC’s ’25 Days of Christmas’ as you count down to Christmas Day. Whether it’s ‘Elf’ or ‘The Grinch’, nothing tops off the night better than your favorite Christmas movie.
6. Spread the Christmas Spirit
Embrace all of the great parties and other events during the holiday season. Take time out of your day to tell someone you love them. Do a good deed for someone else as often as you can. Turn on your Christmas music, set up the tree and spread the Chritmas spirit!
Although Christmas commercials may make you shed a tear, surround yourself with friends and family to make it the perfect holiday season! There are endless activities for everyone to enjoy. Don’t forget to spend a day on the ice rink, admire the Christmas lights and bake Christmas cookies because Christmas time is finally here!
Happy Holidays, Y'all!
XOXO, Maiya
