Everyone has a preference when it comes to adult cartoons. I'm not going to lie and say I don't judge people who like "Family Guy" or shows like it because...I do. I totally do.
"Family Guy" is a show by Seth McFarlane. McFarlane, in all honesty, he mostly uses poop jokes as his gag. You know, 14-year-old male humor. Why is Meg always ragged on? Aside from the fact that Seth said he didn't know how to write girls? Is it because it's "satire"?
Maybe in the early seasons that would've been a good excuse, but Family Guy's being-offensive-just-to-be-offensive manner, has gotten really tired. In the episode "Seahorse Seashell Party", we got really close to seeing Meg ceasing being a punching bag by standing up to her family ... but they revert back to their formula with Meg "realizing" that she "has" to be the punching bag. What?
"The Simpsons" as an animated sitcom turns out to be a bit less crude. That isn't to say there are seasons that aren't as "good" as others; a show as long as "The Simpsons" has made some mistakes, but I feel a greater sense of warmth watching.
Homer, of a low IQ like Peter Griffin, shows he cares for his kids through his actions. "Maggie Makes Three" is one of the episodes that will make you misty eyed and that's only from season six .
Further ahead from season nine is "Lisa's Sax" where Homer spends the $200 he was saving for an air conditioner on Lisa's saxophone since they couldn't afford to send her to a "young and gifted" school.
Marge Simpson is shown to be as loving and more grounded through her care for her kids and Homer. Unlike Lois, much of her comedic material spawns from what she worries about and empathy rather than how neglectful she can get.The only character that is more of the "Meg" of the group is Milhouse, but we get much less polarizing hate towards him from the other characters and more of a jeering response to his awkwardness via traditional schoolyard bullying or just pity.
The Simpsons episodes "Holidays of Future Passed"/"Days of Future Future" were written as a potential series cancellation-end. Though the show is still airing, it gave us a heart-warming and plausible finale to the character's lives on-screen. With "Family Guy" having 14 seasons total, and coming back several times from being "dead" it's definitely not going anywhere via cancellation, but I can only hope it ends within my lifetime.
