Going from freshman year to your sophomore year, you change a lot more than you think. Your freshman year teaches you life lessons that you wouldn't learn anywhere else. Aside from whatever you learned in class, you find out things like 7 am classes are not the smartest idea, nor is spending your last $5 trying to get into that lame college bar. Regardless of what it was, you learned something your freshman year. As I start my sophomore year, there is one lesson I wish I learned just a little bit earlier, and it's that college is where it is okay to fumble around and mess up because things will always work out in the end.
I think it is safe to say everyone did a thing (or many things) that they wish they didn't during their first year of college. Heck, even your sophomore year you're still making silly mistakes. But you shouldn't have to beat yourself over it. Ultimately, it's not what you did to mess up that matters, but how you handle yourself after it. Even after college, it's best to live life in a balance. Of course, you should learn from your mistakes, but never let them hinder you from continuing on with your life. As cheesy and cliche as they go, you should never live life in fear of what could happen.
My freshman year, every time I would mess up, I would literally just lay in bed contemplating everything that had to do with that one situation. I would ruin my whole day because I could not let go of situations. It would take over my whole being and there was nothing more I would hate. My friends would tell me "Let it go" or "It's not that bad". Not letting situations get to you can be easier said than done, but you live such a happier life.
So to those starting your freshman year, or honestly anyone who overthinks their mistakes just like me, I promise you it will all be okay. College is where you try to figure out how to make it in the adult world, no one is going to expect you to have it right the first time. Don't let the mistakes overpower you. Turn your screw ups into lessons, then get over it and move on. The moment you accept this is the moment you will appreciate your college years so much more.
