We can all agree that dorm furniture aren't the prettiest things in the world, but with the help of some simple things your dorm can come to life! Your dorm room is the place where you come back to every day and it should make you feel as comfortable as possible. Of course there's no place like home, so bring the home feeling to your dorm!
A lamp with cute lampshade, window curtains, and picture frames.
The blinds on your windows might be plain, or even broken, so some cute curtains can bring some subtle color to your room. Instead of a regular desk lamp, one with a cute lampshade can soften the feeling as you work at your desk. Framed pictures of loved ones are always a great addition.
Floor light, mirrors, and bookshelves.
If your dorm room has harsh florescent lighting, or none at all, a floor light brightens the room tremendously! One with multiple brightness settings is very useful when roommates are sleeping. Having multiple mirrors can make a room feel bigger! Shelves to store your favorite reads and favorite movies is a great way to bring your home to your dorm.
Tapestry
If your bed is stuck in a corner, take advantage of cute patterns to hang around your head while you sleep! Tapestries are great to cover a lot of space and feel welcoming, especially if you have cinder-block walls.
Plants
Literally bring your room to life with plant life! Something living other than humans, whether it be plants or even fish, are really cute on your windowsill or desk. It's a great way to be responsible to take care of something and makes you feel like you have company.
Area rug
If you have cold, ugly colored linoleum tiles for flooring, an area rug covers a lot of space in small dorms. Now you can roam free being barefoot and have a ground to lay on while chilling out.
Really cool flag or posters
A great alternative to a tapestry is to hang up a flag, or fill up the wall with posters and pictures! Who wouldn't love to lay in bed and stare at all their favorite bands?
Nightstand
Not only are they really adorable, but they are very useful. If you like to read by your bed, it's great to put a light! Charging your phone but need it by your bed as an alarm? Put it on your nightstand! Forgot to take off your jewelry before going to sleep but you're already in bed and don't want to get up, just put it on your nightstand. Have to remind yourself to take medication when you wake up, put it on your nightstand to see right when you wake up.
Extra furniture that isn't dorm furniture
You may need more surfaces to put your stuff on, so if your dorm allows it, take advantage of bringing more furniture! Simple shelves like this are useful to store stuff into it as well.
Extra pillows
Your extra long twin bed may look a bit empty when you first make it. Adding more pillows can turn it into a comfy place to sit when you're not sleeping in it!
Design a cool headboard
Your bed feeling too low to the ground even with bed risers? Use a simple material, like tape, to create a chic headboard!
Bed skirt
Didn't invest in cute storage bins for under your bed? A bed skirt is a great way to hide them, and can give the illusion of your bed being taller!
String of Lights
When all the lights are turned off, holiday lights hung above you brighten up the room just enough for you to see, and is truly magical. You somehow forget that this was once a boring college dorm.
After all the classes, clubs, sports, jobs etc., it's great to come back to a dorm room that is relaxing and what you get to call your own. At the end of each year you may feel like you don't want to take everything down, but that only gets you excited to redo it all over again the next year! *Sending off good vibes.*
