Thanksgiving Break

This is the time in the semester that all students NEED.

This gives students a period in the semester between normal classes and finals. Most of us went home, some stayed on campus, others went on a very well needed vacation away from it all!

I stayed close to campus personally, I went to my aunt and uncle's house the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I did many things over this needed break (including this). Here is what I did for MY Thanksgiving break!

Wednesday

Early in the morning I went to a movie theater to watch the new Pixar movie Coco! As a Spanish major, I loved this movie personally it showed the culture around music and family. This movie also showed Olaf's Frozen Adventure, a cute short film adding onto the story of Anna and Elsa. (I did enjoy this short film)

Later in the day I went to a different movie theater to watch a different movie with a large group of people including my family members. This movie was not as exciting as the movie I watched earlier that day, but still had my favorite actors in it like Johnny Depp and Josh Gad. (Murder on the Orient Express).

Thursday

The big day! This day consisted of making a healthy dinner without a kitchen. *My Aunt and Uncle's kitchen was getting remodeled at the time, there was a stove in the garage to make the dinner.* This dinner was made without salt and butter, it was excellent despite what I expected!! I also watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Purina Dog Show (I watch them every year). The rest of the day consisted of good food, telling stories and making jokes! it was a very enjoyable Thanksgiving!

Friday

Like the average American, I ventured out with my aunt to a mall to go Black Friday Shopping. I mainly bought items that would be thought as "stocking stuffers," but I needed them to complete a gift set that I was making for my friends and family (I try to make all of my Christmas gifts). After shopping for a few hours we ventured back to their house, and I drove an hour back down to campus to spend the rest of my break!

Saturday

Saturday consisted of reading, cleaning, and crafting. I read a book for one of my classes that I had to have done by Tuesday, I did laundry in the empty building, and I made a large chunk of my Christmas gifts for my friends. That was my whole day Saturday filled to the brim with little things.

Sunday

Sunday was also consisted of reading and cleaning, but also writing!

My whole break may seem uneventful (and lonely, some may say) but I thoroughly enjoyed my small break between classes and like every other student, I started my countdown for winter break!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
