If you’ve been commuting to your internship or job this summer, you’ve probably run into some issues. The tips below should help make things a little better.
1. Do a quick change
I have a particularly long commute on the days I go to my internship, plus I take public transportation. So by the time I get to the office I may be a little sweaty because of the humidity. I bring whatever top and shoes with me to change once I get to the office.
*Tip: Bring some wipes too, if you really need to freshen up.
2. Bring Lunch
If you’re not already doing this you should really start. Eating out is great but so is saving a few extra dollars each week, especially if your internship is unpaid. We have a nice kitchen in our office so I put my food in the fridge and heat it up when I’m ready.
*Tip: If you don’t have an insulated lunch bag, freeze a bottle of water overnight and place it in the bag with your lunch to keep it cool.
3. Bring Breakfast too
And not just coffee and a granola or cereal bar.
Who doesn’t like a bowl of their favorite in the morning? Now you don’t have to be at home to enjoy it. Here’s how to bring a bowl of cereal on the go:
Place your cereal in a zip-lock bag or pour it into a bowl and seal with cling wrap.
Freeze your milk in a travel cup the night before or bring it normal and implement the previous tip.
4. Carpool
Try scheduling with fellow interns or coworkers. It’s a great way to know people and save a little extra money.
5. Keep cash handy
What if an ATM isn’t nearby or an establishment’s card reader is down? You never know what emergencies may arise during your commute.
6. Take a phone charger with you
Especially if you start the day with a low charge. If you have an office or cubicle, you can keep it charged throughout the day.
