10 Signs You're A Pessimist

You may be reading this out of curiosity, or perhaps people have been telling you to quit worrying so much. Regardless of your reason, these are some of the top signs that you might just be a pessimist.

1. The glass is half empty.

None of that flowery stuff about it being half full or it all being in the way you see it.

2. You see assuming the worst as a good thing.

After all, when you assume the worst, you're either right or pleasantly surprised! What's not to like? Society generally views that as a negative, pessimistic attitude which leads me to my next point . . .

3. You're not negative, you're just a realist!

You're not trying to be negative, and it's not like you're all doom and gloom, but you will observe the facts from every discernible angle.

4. Which means you're always prepared.

Whether it's possible rain destroying barbecue plans or a snappy comeback to a possibly bad conversation, you're ready for it. Thinking about every possibility has it's perks, and someone has to make sure things go according to plan.

5. Overly positive people wind you up.

This brings me back to perky, flowery stuff about how "the glass is half full."

6. You assume things will go wrong.

After all, why would anything ever go according to plan?

7. Forgiveness is foreign to you.

Pessimists often spend their time considering every way things can go wrong, and it's only strengthened when someone breaks their trust. It's completely insane for you to forgive someone at the drop of a hat. They've done it once; they'll do it again, you think.

8. You tend to take on a parent role.

This vividly brings to mind a memory of my friends giggling as they slipped and slid across an iced over pond, while I screeched from the grass. You hate to be the "No Man," but when everyone around you seems to plunge into situations without a thought, someone has to be!

9. You don't trust easily.

To you, people are fickle and prone to mistakes. You tend to see the worst in people as a precaution. However, once your trust is earned, you're a loyal friend.

10. You read into things too much.

Or maybe just enough. While some people may shrug off certain behavior from a friend, a pessimist tends to look at it from every angle and act accordingly. If a pessimist has friends who regularly go out without inviting him, he will act quickly and rationally: He finds new friends.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
