Cats: stars of the internet, little balls of sass, and as my boyfriend likes to put it, “feline overlords." With a reputation for being, bluntly put, a**holes, these cuties have infiltrated human households and made us into their willing servants. They deceive with their purrs and cuddles, and we cave in like a roof in an earthquake. They have their many quirks, noises, and strange needs, but we somehow love them anyway.
1. We come to their beck and call
I am sitting inside writing this on a beautiful day only because Jade meowed at me to sit by her. And how can I refuse that face?
2. We let them inconvenience us in the middle of the night
And they do it because they could care less. My little fluff ball wakes me up at least twice a night scratching at my door until I let her in. Goodbye, sleep. Not to mention the countless water glasses tipped over while you’re asleep.
3. They come to us with ridiculous demands
Most of the time, we give in just to get them to shut up and leave us alone. My own feline overlord refuses to drink anything but running water, and will not quiet down until I turn on the faucet.
4. They insist on a constantly full bowl
We all know it, that incessant meow that occurs when the food bowl is, God forbid, half empty. Try as hard as we may to ignore it, they always seem to make us fill it up some more.
5. The hundreds of dollars spent at Petco
Look at this toy! This one makes noise! And I definitely need a fountain to spew out her water, ya know because of that whole running water obsession.
6. You take their feelings into consideration
I could get another cat… but she would get jealous. I so want a dog… but she would get jealous. I can just see those big, green eyes filling up with rage now.
7. There's always a third wheel
Forget about anyone else trying to join you in bed. Whenever my boyfriend hops in, he instantly receives a death stare from the cat. She then will maneuver any way to squeeze in between us.
8. You probably talk about your cat a lot
I know my friends are all probably sick of seeing daily snapchats. They also get to hear almost every day about how much my wittle baby loves to cuddle.
9. You always say bye before leaving the house
My goodbyes to my fluff ball usually include copious apologies for leaving her, followed by promises to return. Leaving without doing so could result in murderous stares from an upset kitty and angry meows when I return.
They’re emotional. They’re weird. They test gravity with every object you own. Regardless, we love our insane felines! My cat may insist on sleeping on my arm until I can no longer feel it, but I somehow keep her around. They practically control our lives with their incessant demands, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.
