It's that time of year again: back to school. And if you made the right choice, then you're on the best campus in the whole world--that's right, Villanova (I might be biased). From the blessed lands of Holy Grounds to the brand new #churchviews from the bridge, we Wildcats love our school. As an upperclassmen, we've gotten accustomed to certain unstated rules. If you're brand new, it's pretty easy to spot ya. Don't get me wrong, we're happy you're here. But we're still gonna make fun of you.

Here's a list of 14 signs that you're a Villanova newbie.

1. You wear your Wildcard around your neck.

Listen, I've been there. It's convenient, you won't lose it, yada yada yada. Just stick it on the back of your phone like of the rest of us.

2. You actually wait in that ridiculous line at Belle Air.

Fresh out of orientation, you haven't figured out the best places to eat on campus yet. Conn is great and all, but not when the line reaches the tables outside Freshens. Live Love Café Nova.

3. "Can I use an MPE?"

It's a MEAL, people. Sheesh.

4. You buy/rent everything from The Bookstore.

Amazon rentals are a lifesaver. Give your bank account a break.

5. You get winded by the second floor of Tolentine

WEAK. Just wait until you have a class on the 4th floor, kids. You'll learn.

6. You actually leave the door to your dorm room open to meet your neighbors.

Hey listen, this one is nice. I just don't do it.

7. "Is this event ACS approved?"

You'll be super on top of that first one. Try to stay that way--don't wait til the last week to cram in your last 2.

8. You don't know what the hell "West Campus" is.

"I have theology in...St. Mary's?"

It's a mysterious place full of random classroom assignments, Music Activities, and assorted ghosts.

9. You hit up the gym EVERY. DAY.

If only that motivation would last the semester.

10. You're too afraid to go up to the 3rd floor of Falvey, let alone the 4th.

Noise is nOT PERMITTED.

Finals week will really change a person.

11. The sandwich line in the Spit/Pit intimidates you.

SO worth it.

12. You find yourself humming Baby Shark over and over and over again.

A classic Orientation jam.

13. You spend an absurd amount of time looking out for Jay Wright/any member of the basketball team.

Tbh I still do this.

14. It doesn't quite feel like home yet...

..but trust me, it will soon!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
