I was born and raised in Maryland, but I am technically of southern descent because my dad's side of the family comes from the South. My grandmother is a small town girl from Hamlet, North Carolina and my grandfather was from Ocala, Florida. I am around that side if the family a lot, so there are times when I find myself doing things that southerners would do. Listed below are signs that you are of southern descent. Let's get right into it y'all!

1. A trip to Bojangles' is a recipe for excitement

What southerner doesn't like a restaurant that serves delicious southern food? I will gladly get a few pieces of fried chicken and slap a few fixin's (sides) on my plate as well. Let's not forget to grab a Bo-Berry Biscuit for dessert!

Speaking of food...

2. Fried chicken with a side of macaroni and cheese is like heaven

Please excuse me while I allow my mouth to water for a few minutes.

3. You hear the expression, "bless your heart" a lot.

A personal example is whenever I do something nice for my dear North Carolina grandmother. Without fail, she will tell me "bless your heart" as she gives me a hug.

4. You are familiar with the slang used in southern states

Just by spending a lot of time with my grandmother, I have learned some North Carolina slang. Here's a little dictionary:

fixin' to- getting ready to/about to do something

Example: I'm fixin' to take a shower and go to bed.

right quick- real quick

Example: Let me see your phone right quick.

act ugly- exhibit bad behavior

Example: She was acting ugly because her mom and dad said she couldn't spend the night with her boyfriend.

5. You grew up with church and Christianity

My dad's side of the family are very religious people. Ever since I was a young one, I went to church with them on Sundays every time I spent time with them. I must say that I am a proud Christian. I know that not all southerners are religious, but the ones I know have some sort of Christian background.

6. Manners are a way of life

Yes ma'am/no ma'am, yes sir/no sir, and please/thank you, etc. become second nature at an early age.

7. Grits, mashed potatoes, greens, and sweet potatoes are common side dishes

Don't believe me? Just ask my grandma.

8. Hugs are given when greeting or saying goodbye to someone

Even if someone us not a family member, we hug them :)

These are all based on my personal experiences. I must say I am proud to be half southerner. Stay blessed, y'all.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
