Signs You're in a Sorority at WFU

Being at Wake Forest, you know Greek life isn't quite like other places... especially for sororities.

Signs You're in a Sorority at WFU

Here at Wake we stand out a bit in the sorority world. We have all had those conversations back home where our friends at 'Whatever State University' seem shocked when we talk about the Greek scene on campus. There are a few things that come along with being a sorority girl at WFU.

1. You have chucks. These bad boys are what you wear when you go out. They are perfect for getting dirty and drawing your sorority sayings all over them. Plus they are extremely comfortable and are extremely sturdy. You only need one pair for your entire time at Wake... but you probably own two or three.

2. A mank, fanny pack, and leggings are your go-to outfit for going out. These are a few of the things you first receive from bid day and you never give up. No matter what the theme, you just have to add accessories to this staple and you are ready to go. Plus a fanny back is super awesome because it keeps everything you could possibly need for a night out, including a snack.

3. You die a little inside when it is cold/raining/snowing and you are trying to go out. This one is the worst because due to Wake's smaller campus it only takes about five minutes to get anywhere, BUT five minutes can feel like an hour when walking in the rain. Or even worse, waiting outside in the rain. But what can I say? Wake sorority girls are tough.

4. Having recruitment in January makes you wish you went to a school with Fall recruitment. January is the worst month to have to be a) peppy and pleasant, b) dressed perfectly every day, and c) deal with people in general. When you talk to your friends about spring recruitment, they think you are the weirdest person ever. And not to mention that for the past two years, bid day has been the coldest and most dreary day for weather.

5. You have sat at a table in Benson/in front of the Pit at least once trying to raise money for your philanthropy. This is the worst job ever because of how awkward it is. You have to talk to people who obviously don't want to talk to you for an hour, and you feel like crap if you don't raise money for your philanthropy while you're there. Needless to say this is a job you sign up for once and then never sign up for it again.

6. You are jealous of your friend's Sorority house. We don't have houses on campus but we do have "halls". This is fun but you always think about the joy you would have waking up in a building filled with your sisters just like in a stereotypical college movie.

7. You always have a team to be apart of for Hit the Bricks/Wake 'n Shake. The two biggest campus fundraisers are the best things ever. Everyone treats these two events as holidays. Each year you sign up for these events with your sisters and never have an excuse to miss these loved events (like you'd even want any).

8. Panhellenic love is always in your heart. No matter what competitions you are in against other sororities or where your friends ended up, you still have Panhell love. It is unique at Wake because you make friends before you go through recruitment and bond with other girls without a Greek Label on them. You cheer on other groups that do well on campus and support their philanthropy events.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
