So, among my friends/basically everyone I know, I am sort of known for my obsession with all things British and having to do with the United Kingdom. I spent an entire semester living in London, and I have become quite convinced I was unfortunately born on the wrong continent.
If you have also face this problem, here are some signs you may actually be a British person born in America.
1. If America became a part of England again, you would actually be okay with it.
2. In fact, you think monarchy is the best form of government.
3. You would readily nominate yourself to be the monarch of America.
4. Speaking of royals, Kate Middleton is your idol.
5. You follow Kate Middleton style blogs and may or may not have some of the same clothes as her.
6. You probably are going to name your daughter Kate.
7. You seriously just want to pinch Prince George's cheeks because he is just so damn cute.
8. You really just want to be a princess.
9. Or, you could just live at Downton Abbey.
10. You watch Downton Abbey religiously.
11. The words Matthew and Crawley do terrible things to you.
12. Downton in general just really tears you apart every Sunday.
13. You may or may not have tried to acquire a British accent from watching Downton, Harry Potter, or another British television show or movie.
14. You are still convinced you are getting your Hogwarts letter even though you live in America and are well past 11.
15. Hermione Granger was your geeky spirit animal growing up.
16. You have tried your British accent on your friends.
17. They probably have lied to you and told you it was good.
18. Oxford and Cambridge really were your first choice universities, but you chose to settle for your American school like other basic Americans.
19. You say university instead of college because that obviously is the correct choice.
20. You have been graded down by professors for using British spelling instead of American.
21. You probably studied or abroad or will study abroad in England.
22. You are still bitter that America decided to break off from England.
23. This also was literally the only reason the Obamas were not invited to the royal wedding.
24. When you marry Prince Harry in your royal wedding, you are going to ensure that the president is invited. You do have some American pride.
25. You drink more tea than water.
26. You also love scones.
27. You probably tried once to make your own scones, but it failed because scones are really hard to make.
28. You also love fish and chips.
29. You call french fries chips and chips crisps, and all your friends get really annoyed with you.
30. You try to assimilate British expressions and terms into your vocabulary.
31. People sort of stare at you when you say lift instead of elevator.
32. You love Jane Austen.
33. You know Pride and Prejudice is not actually the best book by Jane Austen.
34. People who say they love Pride and Prejudice are not true Austenites if they have not read her other books.
35. You have a special place in your heart too for the Brontes, Dickens, Thomas Hardy, and all the British favorites.
36. You own movie adaptations of all your favorite British novels.
37. The BBC is your jam.
38. You know more about British geography than American geography.
39. You have a British flag hanging in your room.
40. People sometimes judge you for your lack of patriotism.
41. Your friends probably know more about the UK than they ever thought they would.
42. You import British food from the internet.
43. You use Hola to watch British Netflix because you could not watch all your favorite shows otherwise.
44. You sometimes forget not everyone in England is a royal, a wizard, or live in Downton Abbey.
45. You regularly Instagram pictures of London/England on Instagram.
46. You secretly think the British Empire should still be a thing.
47. You probably are going to move to England someday.
48. However, it probably is a fact you are more obsessed with British culture than most British people are.
49. The grass is always greener on the other side of the pond.
50. Well, maybe you will just remain the British obsessed American. At least for now.
