This week, The Sigma Chi Fraternity at FGCU will be hosting its 5th annual Derby Days, benefiting the Huntsman Cancer Institute. HCI was founded by Jon Huntsman SR. and hopes to help our generation to be the generation to end Cancer, a disease that affects almost everyone. Every year, Sigma Chi chapters across the nation host their largest philanthropy event “Derby Days.”
Derby days is a multiple day event in which all 6 sororities (Delta Delta Delta, Zeta Tau Alpha, Phi Mu, Chi Omega, Kappa Delta and Alpha Chi Omega) will compete in throughout the week to raise money for this great cause. This year’s Derby Days starts Wednesday at 9 AM and will run until Friday night which will conclude with “Skit Night.” In the 4 years Sigma Chi has hosted Derby Days on campus, over $60,000 has been raised and donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute thanks to the generous donations and stellar participation by all the sororities at FGCU. This last Derby Days at FGCU raised nearly $25,000. Although this year’s events are still 2 days away, Sororities have raised well over $6,000 in donations through their respective "Go Fund Me" pages. Even local businesses, like Around The Clock Fitness, have stepped up to join the fight. Sigma Chi encourages everyone who wishes to be a part of the generation to end cancer to come out and support the cause this week.
