We have come a long way from the phrase "Tune in Next Week and Find Out." With the innovation of online streaming thanks to sites like Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime, Hulu and others, we have endless options for ways to enjoy our favorite shows. Most college students and even adults can agree that there is nothing more enjoyable after a long day of work than just sitting down and putting on your favorite show and picking up right where you left off. But another great thing about online streaming sites like Netflix and others is the ability to find new shows and be able to binge watch episode after episode without having to wait a week for the next episode.I know in my experience nothing was better than discovering a new show and being able to tell other people about it and get them into it. Some shows you would have never thought you would like have become your favorites. Here are five shows that I personally recommend adding to your binge watching if they aren't there already, I promise you will enjoy them.
5. "American Dad"
For those who are shocked that "Family Guy" did not make this list, I would just like to make it clear that it is not because I do not like "Family Guy." I enjoy "Family Guy" just as much as the next person, but I chose to put "American Dad" on this list because most people already know how funny "Family Guy" is and I feel that more people should see how funny "American Dad" is. I will even admit that there are instances where "American Dad" is even funnier than "Family Guy." Of course being written by the same creator, Seth MacFarlane, both shows share the same humor, however "American Dad" focuses less on the cutaway jokes "Family Guy" is known for and instead focuses on the crazy antics the characters get themselves into. And of course the biggest part that makes the whole show worth it is Roger. He's by far the funniest character on the show and one of the more complex ones as well. The antics of this alcoholic, pan sexual alien will keep you laughing for years and years to come, making this whole show worth checking out.
4. "Arrested Development"
The story of the one family, The Bluths, who lost everything and the one son, Michael, who has no choice but to keep them all together. If you're looking for a show that not only gives you a good laugh but is also easy to keep up with, "Arrested Development" is right for you. Topped with a great cast of very unique, distinct, and hilarious characters as well as cleverly written jokes and running gags makes this show one of the big hidden gems on Netflix and other streaming sites. The original show only ran for three seasons but recently returned with a fourth season and is currently in the process of producing its fifth season, which makes this show easy to get caught up with. The jokes and characters will make you want to keep watching and you'll end up catching up before you realize it.
3. "The Office"
Now for those who have not seen "The Office" before, I know what you must be thinking. What could be so interesting about an office? People sitting at their desks and working all day. What's so interesting about that? Once you enter the doors of Dunder Mifflin Scranton, your whole view of offices will change forever. One of the funniest and best written shows you will find out there. Memorable characters from the crazed beat farmer, Dwight K. Schrute, to prankster Jim Halpert, all the way to the hilariously immature regional manager, Michael Scott. The great and hilarious performance of Steve Carrell will have you on your floor laughing. Soon you will be quoting this show for ages and ages to come.
The first seven seasons of this show are by far some of the funniest and best television I have seen in some time. I'm not going to lie and say the last two seasons (nine seasons in total) are as good as the first seven, but that is only because let's just say, (without giving anything away) that there is a big piece of the show missing from the last two seasons. But despite this, the show is still worth watching. And I promise you once you've come this far, it's still worth finishing ... that's what she said ;P
2. "The Legend of Korra"
I CANNOT recommend this show enough!! By far one of the best animated shows that I have watched in a long time. Four seasons of the best television I have ever seen, especially from a cartoon. "Legend of Korra," is one of the best hidden secrets Nickelodeon has had in recent years. Following Nickelodeon's successful and popular series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," Korra follows the adventures of Avatar Aang's successor and in following her, this show addresses more than just the four elements. This show is for both kids and adults, as the children will enjoy the beautiful animation and the amazing fighting scenes while the adults will enjoy the well developed characters as well as the political, social, and racial issues addressed throughout the show. I can tell you in my own experience this show was so addicting that I finished it in about four days ... no joke. Each season only gets better and better and the characters grow more as we go along with Korra and her friends on her journey to bring balance to the world.
1. "Breaking Bad"
This should not come as a shock to most people. "Breaking Bad" is highly regarded, and deservedly so, as one of the best television shows ever. A show definitely worth binge watching. I can tell you from my own experience as well as from my brother's experience that this show left an impact on us. This show was so great that we actually went through it multiple times. My brother actually went through all five seasons in less than a week!! Yes a week!! Watching the transformation of Walter White to the mastermind Heisenberg will take viewers on an emotional ride, that they will not want to end. All the twists and turns will leave viewers yelling WTF as well as wanting more!! With well developed characters, the brilliant performances of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, as well as the emotional roller coaster ride the viewer is taken on, makes this one of, if not, the best show of all time, and the number one show to binge watch.
I hope readers will check these shows out if they have not already. Watching them was a great experience for me and I promise you that you will not be sorry you gave them a watch. I hope next time you are in need of a show to watch that you will consider at least one if not all of these shows. And if you have your own suggestions please feel free to share them!! I am always looking for a new show to watch!!
