It has been over two months since the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic and states are starting to reopen. However, many people (such as myself) are considered to be high-risk and plan on continuing to practice social distancing and avoid leaving the house for nonessential business. Classes also just finished for the semester so now I have a ton of time to binge watch a bunch of different shows and movies. Here are seven different shows and movies I have been watching while in quarantine.
House M.D.
GiphyI've never been all that interested in popular medical dramas like "Grey's Anatomy". With that being said I love "House M.D.". The show itself is absolutely WILD and totally unrealistic. It seems as though Dr. House just throws around random diagnoses until he finds something that sticks. Regardless, it is still an entertaining show that I never get bored of. You can find the series on Amazon Prime.
Midsommar
GiphyThere are two types of people in this world. People who LOVE Ari Aster's "Midsommar" and people who cannot stand it. I would go as far as to say that "Midsommar" is one of my all-time favorite movies. I could watch it over and over again and still find something new that I didn't notice before. The film itself falls into the horror or thriller category but director Ari Aster has described it as a breakup movie and wrote the movie while going through his own divorce. The film especially resonates with those who have been in a toxic relationship in which they were emotionally manipulated by their partner. I couldn't put into words how much I love this movie. The movie follows Dani (who just experienced a MAJOR family tragedy), her boyfriend, and his friends as they travel to the village of Harga for the Midsommar celebration and things get a little weird. You can watch "Midsommar" on Amazon Prime.
Hereditary
GiphySurprise, surprise, Ari Aster's other hit film, "Hereditary" also made this list. This is largely due to Toni Collette's mind-blowing performance as Annie Graham. "Hereditary" is overall a great movie and tackles some very real and common themes. I don't want to give too much away because this movie is much more effective if you don't have a lot of prior knowledge. You can watch "Hereditary" on Amazon Prime.
Dance Moms
GiphyIn my personal opinion there is no better way to waste time than by watching a lot of trashy reality television. There's just something oddly entertaining about watching Abby Lee Miller scream at a bunch of little girls and you can't forget all the drama between the moms. You can watch "Dance Moms" on Hulu.
The Hunger Games Series
GiphyThe most recent addition to the "Hunger Games" entitled "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" was just released on the 19th. Now is the time to re-watch the movies and re-read the books in preparation for the new book. Re-watching the movies sparked my interest in this series again. I read the first book when it came out in 2008 and if I'm being completely honest it all went over my head. I never realized the point it was trying to make or how politically charged this series was. You can find the "Hunger Games" movies on Hulu.
America's Next Top Model
GiphyLike I said earlier, the best way to waste time is by watching trashy reality television and "America's Next Top Model" is no exception. This show is incredibly problematic and over-dramatic which is exactly why I watch it. The whole show is just full of drama and cringey moments. The show premiered on May 20, 2003 and is truly a time capsule in and of itself with classic early 2000's fashion and politically incorrect commentary (Janice Dickinson is TRULY something else). You can watch all 24 seasons of "America's Next Top Model" on Hulu.
Booksmart
Giphy"Booksmart" is another movie that holds a special place in my heart. This coming-of-age comedy came out when I was finishing up my senior year of high school and getting ready to graduate. The chemistry between Kaitlyn Denver and Beanie Feldstein is incredible. The movie will make you laugh and cry. You can watch "Booksmart" on Hulu.
