I read something once that claimed that "Entourage" was the male version of "Sex and the City." While both shows are centered around a group of friends trying to navigate through life’s issues of being a modern day human being, there are definite lessons to be learned from both shows. "Sex and the City" was my ride or die show for the longest time, but when I had heard that "Entourage" was equally the sh*t, I really did notice that it was mostly my guy friends telling me that they had enjoyed it. I didn’t know if I’d like a show that I couldn’t relate to because I was a woman.
Bottom line, I was wrong and "Entourage" is actually everything. "Sex and the City" was my holy grail, but once I watched "Entourage," it definitely gave Carrie and her squad a run for its money. It was a show that was so much more than it’s vulgar, raunchy, and sometimes misogynistic jokes. At the end of the day, it was a show that told a story that we can all relate to with a lifestyle we all dream about.
Always have love for where you come from.
While Vince makes it big in Los Angeles and has Drama, Eric, and Turtle out there with him, the gang is always thinking about Queens. Queens Boulevard is the movie that catapults Vince to stardom. Whenever the going gets tough, they head back home to regroup and to get their groove back. A hometown is so much more than a little town where everyone grows up in. Before you know where you're going, you have to know where you come from, ya know?
Never judge a book by its cover.
I literally never think I'll encounter a bigger douche of a character than Ari Gold. Ari is Vince's manager and takes zero sh*t from anyone. He deadass makes misogynistic, racist, and sometimes homophobic comments to everyone around him. And you'd think that a character like this would be super hated, but he turned out to be one of my favorites. While he makes all these crazy comments, you realize that at the end of the day he really does care about everyone around him. In season three, he saved his assistant Lloyd from some freak writer that was about to sexually assault him. Sometimes it's the worst people that have the biggest hearts.
Your life is not always going to play out like an amazing blockbuster hit.
No matter how hard you try, life is never going to play out how you think it is. Vince went from being the lead in the top-grossing film, to a lead in a theatrical flop, to a cocaine addict, back to a movie star again. Sometimes things don't work out how you think and sometimes you'll turn into a person you said you'd never become. One day you're a star and the next day people won't even remember your name. But it's important to remember that things don't stay sh*tty forever. And if they do, I hope you have the strength and the squad to help you turn your life around.
But when life does get bad, remember who sticks around.
If you find people that will be there for you unconditionally because you'd do the same for them, then I think you've hit the ultimate jackpot in life. "Entourage" is proof that while money, hook-ups, and success come and go, true friends are forever. True friends weather any storm together. And if you're lucky, you all can experience the rainbow after the storm.
