Why You Shouldn't Have A 4.0 GPA

There is much more to your college experience than the announcement after your name at graduation.

I'm going to be honest: I'm not impressed by your 4.0 GPA. A 4.0 is not something that should be easy to obtain. A 4.0 is a goal that we often come up short on. A 4.0 is the driving force that makes you do your readings, finish your homework, and suffer through those horrid group projects. But a 4.0 GPA isn't something you should actually have.

In my opinion, if you have a 4.0, you're not challenging yourself enough. You're not taking advantage of everything your school has to offer. You're paying for an education, and you deserve a great one. You're not paying to get a 4.0. You're paying (an outrageous amount, may I add) to learn as much as you can. Whether that is personal learning through clubs, organizations and programs or academic learning through classes.

If you find yourself achieving a 4.0, add another class to your schedule. You could also add a more challenging class or join the honors program. Become a member of a club or organization that you can dedicate your valuable time and energy to.

It is more important to get the most out of your college experience than to get a 4.0. Your university has so much more to offer that will be more beneficial to you than the announcement after your name at graduation. Leadership opportunities through clubs and organizations give you not only a sense of accomplishment similar to obtaining a 4.0 GPA, but also real-world skills. You need to be able to lead a group of people, successfully plan events, and develop your passion in life. Through a club or organization, you may realize that charity is your passion, and that realization is invaluable.

I'm not saying your achievements aren't worthy and you shouldn't do your best academically. I'm not saying there isn't pride in getting a great GPA. I am saying there is a world full of more important things than that President's List certificate.

I applaud you if you already have a full schedule AND you have a 4.0. If you are doing absolutely as much as you can handle and you are already challenging yourself, you're doing it right. But I know a good majority of us are not. Challenge yourself. Get involved. Be a better person, without a 4.0.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
