No one every really plans to drop a class. Although it is oftentimes seen as a failure, it's not. Dropping a class can have its benefits if it's necessary. However, dropping classes should be done moderately and with the guidance of an advisor. Here' s a list of reasons why you should consider dropping a class.
1.) You're on the verge of failing.
Now, this is a big one. If you're on the verge of failing, why stay in the class if it's going to be ridiculously and sometimes, unrealistically difficult to get your grade back up? Save yourself the "F" on your transcripts and take it another semester when you're in the right mindset.
2.) It is starting to effect your mental health.
If a class is starting to drastically effect your mental health, I would suggest dropping the class and seeing if you can take another class related to it next semester or seeing if you can take it with another professor.
3.) You feel uncomfortable with the professor.
Now I hope this doesn't happen to any of you. Like ever. However, there are often times when students are mistreated by professors. Whether is be sexual misconduct, verbal abuse, unwanted physical touching, or the professor is simply mean to you, you don't deserve it. I'm not talking about difficult professors here - we all need to be challenged. But if it becomes a serious problem, I think you should consider dropping.
4.) You aren't doing your best because of your other classes.
I know juggling courses is difficult and it's expected that we can do it. But sometimes, it is in your best interest to not take on everything at once. Why get a lower grade in a class that you KNOW you could have gotten a B or even an A in if you weren't doing so much at once?
Remember, only drop a class after you've talked to your advisor. This is could effect your scholarships and graduation date.
